Jeep proposes to launch the Jeep Commander (Meridian) in South America, followed by an Indian launch. Its teaser reveals luxurious interiors.
● Jeep envisages more luxury and comfort in the Commander (Meridian) than the Compass.● The launch is due sometime this year in the South American market.● The Indian version will come with a 2.0L diesel engine with mild-hybrid technology.
The Teaser – An appetiser
The teaser of the Jeep Commander (Meridian) interiors before its launch in South America later this year reveals a more luxurious look than the Jeep Compass. Though it looks similar to the 3-row Commander, a closer look displays unique accents in the premium SUV.
While the Jeep Compass had a leather finish for the dashboard, the Jeep Commander reveals a suede finish. The cross-stitching pattern on the brown leather and suede upholstery looks enticing. The Commander teaser also reveals the rose gold accents on the lower console with the Jeep 1941 symbol embossing on the front armrest, taking you back into nostalgia.
The Jeep Commander gets a 60:40 second-row split to allow easy access to the 3rd-row seats. In addition, it seems that the last row passengers might get access to mobile charging ports and blower speed adjustments. One could expect the Jeep Commander to come with Captain seats in the future.
Jeep Commander – Engine options
The Brazilian model could feature a 1.3L turbo petrol engine, as available in the Jeep Compass in many international markets. However, the Indian version of the Jeep Commander (Meridian) will feature a 2.0L 4-cylinder Multijet diesel engine, similar to what is available in the Jeep Compass.
The official figures are not out yet, but one expects the engine to touch 200hp. It will combine with a 9-speed torque converter automatic transmission system. Jeep is also expected to offer a 48V mild-hybrid tech with a belt-driven starter generator (BSG) to reduce fuel emission and enhance efficiency.
Jeep Commander – Interiors
While the Jeep Commander resembles the Compass in almost all respects, it offers a 10.25-inches digital display and a 10.1-inches floating touchscreen infotainment system. Other exciting features include a panoramic sunroof, steering-mounted controls, and dual-zone climate control.
The Jeep Commander proposes to be a safe vehicle by including multiple airbags, ABS, EBD, electric parking brakes, ESC, and front and rear parking sensors. In addition, one can also expect features like Adaptive Cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, and lane departure warning.
The Indian Launch
The Jeep Commander will be named the Jeep Meridian in India. Jeep plans to commence production in India by April 2022, with the launch happening somewhere in mid-2022. The expected price could be around Rs 35 lakhs. This vehicle could face stiff competition from Toyota Frontrunner, Skoda Kushaq TSI, MG Gloster, Volkswagen Tiguan, and Ford Endeavour.
