● Tata Tigor EV gets its much-awaited facelift and a bigger battery.● The new model gets a new name, Xpres-T EV.● Tata Motors claims that the Xpres-T EV will suit the needs of the fleet operators.
Tata Motors has given its Tata Tigor EV model a facelift by equipping it with a bigger battery to suit the requirements of fleet operators. The revamped vehicle gets a new name, Xpres-T EV. Bookings for the new model will start soon. Among other cosmetic changes, the facelifted model gets a bigger battery. As a result, Tata Motors claims it can achieve a mileage of 165km.
Tata Xpres-T EV – Exterior changes
The facelifting of the Tata Tigor EV is similar to that of the Tigor compact sedan. However, the changes include blue highlights and a tri-arrow-patterned enclosed grille. Moreover, Tata Motors has provided an additional charging socket located inside the grille, similar to what some other EVs have.
The interiors do not get much of a change except for the blue highlighting and the provision of a ‘state of charge’ meter instead of the traditional RPM gauge.
Tata Xpres-T EV – Bigger battery
Tata Xpres-T EV offers two battery pack options, as the standard model gets a 16.5 kWh pack and the extended range model, a 21.5 kWh unit. These batteries deliver adequate power to a 70V 3-phase induction motor to produce a maximum power of 30kW and a high torque of 105Nm. Interestingly, the pre-facelifted Tata Tigor EV had identical figures.
Tata Motors claims that the extended range model will deliver an identical 213km range. In contrast, the standard model mileage will improve to 165km from the existing 143km by the outgoing Tata Tigor EV.
Fast recharging facilities are available on both the standard and extended battery packs. As a result, the charging time will now be 90 minutes and 110 minutes respectively for charging from 0 to 80%.
Tata Xpres-T EV variants
Two variants of the Tata Xpres-T EV are available, XM+ and XT+. The standard XM+ version will get features like dual airbags, rear parking sensors, ABS, LED tail-lamps, Eco and Sport driving modes, 14-inch wheels, power windows, auto climate control, and a Harman-source sound system with Bluetooth connectivity.
The higher-end XT+ variant features 14-inch alloy wheels, remote locking, and electrically adjustable wing mirrors.Tata Tigor has dropped the entry-level XE trim from its line-up. As a result, the Tata Xpres-T EV does not have any direct competition in the Indian market.
