Maruti Dzire Insight Review

thumb-upWhat We Like?

  •  Achieved a top-notch 5-star safety rating at GNCAP, featuring comprehensive safety equipment such as 6 airbags, 3-point seatbelts for all passengers, TPMS, a 360-degree camera, ESP, hill-hold assist, and ISOFIX child seat mounts.
  •  Boasts sharp and contemporary design elements, making it one of the most stylish compact sedans currently available.
  •  The cabin features a smartly designed dashboard, excellent ergonomics, and well-integrated soft-touch materials, giving it a premium feel.
  • The Dzire is competitively priced, offering excellent value for the features and quality on offer.
  •  The manual gearbox has short, slick throws that provide a fantastic driving experience, truly one of the best MTs in the segment.
  • Light controls, great drivability, and a compact size make it an ideal car for urban environments.
  • Buyers can choose between a sporty manual transmission (MT) or the convenience of an automated manual transmission (AMT). Additionally, CNG variants cater to those with higher running needs.
  •  Equipped with a 3-cylinder engine, it offers outstanding mileage with ARAI-certified figures of 25.71 km/l for the AMT, 24.79 km/l for the MT, and 33.73 km/kg for the CNG variant.
  •  The suspension ensures a compliant ride and neutral handling characteristics, making it suitable for a variety of road conditions.
  • Comes with a rich feature set, including automatic LED headlamps, LED DRLs, LED fog lamps, cruise control, a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Arkamys sound, rear A/C vents, wireless smartphone charging, footwell lighting, and connected car technology.
  •  Backed by Maruti’s expansive service network and stellar reputation for hassle-free ownership experiences.

thumb-downWhat could have been better?

  •  The 1.2L petrol engine doesn’t offer the performance enthusiasts seek, delivering just 81 BHP, a drop in power compared to the previous 4-cylinder engine, which was also more refined.
  •  The car doesn’t feel as solidly built as some rivals, with noticeable panel gaps that could have been tighter.
  •  The interior plastic quality is average and typical of Maruti, lacking the premium feel offered by competitors.
  •  The AMT transmission can feel jerky and slow at times, falling short of the smoothness provided by competitors like the Amaze CVT or Aura AMT.
  •  The 382-litre boot is 5-10% smaller than competitors, with a high loading lip and a narrower opening that make loading luggage less convenient.
  •  The light-coloured cabin materials are prone to staining and may require frequent cleaning to maintain.
  •  The rear seat offers mediocre under-thigh support, especially for taller passengers, which impacts long-distance comfort.
  •  Some key features are missing, such as an auto-dimming IRVM, front armrest, and driving modes. Additionally, the Z trims come with a smaller spare tyre.
  •  The L and V variants are equipped with narrow 165 mm tyres, which compromise safety. Upgrading to at least 185 mm tyres is recommended.
  •  The 163 mm unladen ground clearance could pose challenges on bad roads or large speed breakers, though Maruti cars generally avoid scraping.
  •  The absence of a centre headrest makes it uncomfortable for the third passenger during longer journeys.
  •  ADAS is notably absent, which is disappointing given the growing emphasis on passive safety features seen in competitors like the third-gen Honda Amaze.
  •  The switch from a 4-cylinder to a 3-cylinder engine raises concerns about engine refinement and smoothness.
  •  The AMT is not the most reliable automatic transmission option. A CVT, torque converter, or even a modern 6-speed manual would have been preferable to the older 5-speed gearbox.
  • Keeping in consideration about the varied climatology demographically seat-ventilation could've added more value to the overhaul luxury front.
  • The generational shift should've increased the wheelbase catering to better rear-seat spacing, which unfortunately lacks.
