Latest Update: With the debut of the Neue Klasse platform, BMW is expanding its electric vehicle portfolio. One of the most anticipated models underpinned by this platform is the BMW i3 electric sedan, positioning it as an electric sibling of popular 3 Series models. BMW aims to sell its BMW i3 with existing ICE-powered 3 Series models, fulfilling all customers' demands.
The BMW i3 exterior design is inspired by the Vision Neue Klasse concept with unique design elements. An industry report stated that the i3 electric sedan will have clean lines and bold surfaces, featuring the brand’s iconic design cues like the Kidney grille and Hofmeister kink.
The German luxury car manufacturer is also expected to offer a new BMW Panoramic Vision interface with updated iDrive OS, taking cabin ambiance and technology connectivity to the next level. With this system, the occupants can enjoy a customizable augmented reality experience. The cabin's multi-functioning massaging seats with futuristic wraparound dashboards could blend cutting-edge technological innovation with comfort and luxury.
The integration of BMW’s Neue Klasse Platform supports single and dual electric motor configurations, suggesting the i3 sedan will be available in RWD and AWD options. The entry-level variant of the BMW i3 would be capable of churning out 300 bhp by using an 800-volt system and offering a maximum range of 800 km on a single charge.
While the launch date of the BMW i3 electric is not confirmed, it's expected to debut in 2026.
Expected Price & Rivals
BMW i3 price in India is expected to start from Rs 1 crore, ex-showroom. After launching in the electric car market, the EV will rival Mini Cooper SE, BYD Atto 3, and Hyundai Ioniq 5.
