Bajaj Chetak reclaims the No. 1 spot in India’s electric two-wheeler market with a 29% share, led by the success of its 29 and 35 Series.
In a resounding affirmation of its legacy and innovation, Bajaj Chetak has emerged as the No. 1 electric two-wheeler in India by both volume and value for the last quarter of FY 2024–2025. Capturing a dominant 29% market share, the Chetak has reclaimed the top spot in a highly competitive segment, once again establishing itself as the preferred electric scooter for Indian consumers. This achievement underscores Bajaj Auto Ltd’s strategic focus on combining performance, reliability, and timeless style while catering to a rapidly evolving EV market.
This milestone also signals a full-circle moment for the iconic Chetak brand, which once ruled Indian roads from the 1970s to the 1990s. Reinvented in a new-age electric avatar, the Bajaj Chetak has resonated deeply with modern riders who seek heritage with a forward-looking twist. The scooter’s return to prominence is not just symbolic; it is backed by tangible market performance and a loyal, growing customer base.
The Chetak’s journey to the top has been propelled by several key factors. Bajaj Auto’s expansive network of over 3,800 sales and service outlets has ensured nationwide accessibility and support. Moreover, the brand’s recent product innovations, particularly the Chetak 29 Series and the flagship 35 Series, have played a pivotal role in this success. Together, these models contributed over 2 lakh units in sales during 2024 alone. The 35 Series, hailed as the “Best Chetak Yet”, integrates floorboard-mounted batteries, advanced safety features, and smart connectivity, creating an offering that blends modern convenience with Chetak’s trusted durability. The result is a product experience that customers have come to describe as “Lifeproof”.
Beyond electric two-wheelers, Bajaj Auto’s leadership in clean mobility is evident across its diverse portfolio. With a commanding 28% market share in CNG and EV-powered two- and three-wheelers, the company has firmly positioned itself as India’s No.1 clean fuel mobility brand. Over 40% of its domestic sales now come from electric and CNG-powered vehicles, which is a testament to its commitment to sustainable transportation. Recent launches such as the Bajaj Freedom, the world’s first CNG motorcycle, and the all-new Bajaj Gogo electric three-wheeler reinforce this vision and expand the company’s clean mobility footprint.
Reflecting on this achievement, Mr Eric Vas, President of the Urbanite Business Unit at Bajaj Auto Ltd, said, “We are happy to reach this coveted milestone. Chetak has once again become a customer favourite, from ICE to its electric avatar. Bajaj Auto has led the EV revolution with its offerings in the 2-wheeler and 3-wheeler space. This is a result of our curated strategy of differentiated offerings, focus on customer experience and service network. On the back of the ‘Best Chetak Yet’, the 35 Series, we look forward to welcoming even more riders to the Chetak family in the coming months.”
As Bajaj Chetak rides high on its latest success, it continues to embody a powerful blend of legacy and progress, proving once again that heritage, when reinvented with vision and precision, can lead the charge in a new era of mobility.
