Kawasaki unveils the KLX230, a serious off-road bike with a 233cc engine, 240mm suspension travel, and lightweight design. Deliveries begin in January 2025.
The KLX230, a tough off-road motorcycle from Kawasaki that is the first significant road-going Japanese off-roader in India, was formally introduced. Off-road aficionados are expected to be drawn to the KLX230 due to its lightweight design, remarkable suspension, and straightforward yet useful features. This bike, which comes in two eye-catching colors—Lime Green and Battle Grey—offers a pure riding experience that is concentrated on navigating challenging terrain. The price of the KLX230 has not yet been revealed by Kawasaki, however it is anticipated to be revealed in December 2024. With a nominal payment of Rs 5,000, reservations for the bike are now being accepted, and delivery is scheduled to start in January 2025.
The Kawasaki KLX230 is powered by a single-cylinder, air-cooled, 2-valve, 233cc engine that is basic but efficient. This motor produces 18.3 Nm of torque at 6,400 rpm and 18.1 horsepower at 8,000 rpm. With a 6-speed transmission, the engine outperforms the 5-speed one of the Hero Xpulse 200 4V, its competitor. The engine is built to provide a well-balanced performance appropriate for light road use as well as off-road exploration.
The KLX230 is built on a perimeter frame, providing it with a sturdy base for off-road riding. The suspension setup includes a 37mm telescopic front fork and a rear monoshock, offering an impressive 240mm of front suspension travel and 250mm at the rear. While the suspension doesn’t feature adjustability except for preload on the shock, the travel ensures a smooth ride over rough terrain.
Braking is handled by a 265mm front disc and a 220mm rear disc, supported by switchable dual-channel ABS, giving riders confidence when tackling challenging surfaces.
Kawasaki has kept the KLX230’s design minimalistic to focus on performance. The bike features basic bodywork and a simple LCD display that includes Bluetooth connectivity. Lighting is provided by an LED headlight, ensuring visibility during night rides. Weighing just 139kg, the KLX230 is light, making it nimble for off-road maneuvers. The seat height stands at 880mm, but an optional low seat can reduce it to 866mm for shorter riders.
Kawasaki offers a variety of accessories for the KLX230, including crash protection, handguards, a luggage rack, a USB-C charger, and a handlebar pad. These add-ons make the bike even more versatile for long-distance off-road trips.
