Discover how Kia K3 secured its 5-star Latin NCAP rating, featuring frontal, side, and pole impact protection, ESC, AEB systems, and child occupant safety performance.
The Hyundai Verna-based Kia K3 has achieved a noteworthy feat by earning a 5-star rating in Latin NCAP crash tests. Given that previous Kia models in the area had not received ratings higher than three stars, this is a significant turning point for the brand. The enhanced safety features and crash test results of the Kia K3 show the brand's dedication to international safety standards and its goals for the future in markets like India.
The Kia K3 model tested was equipped with an extensive range of safety features, including:
The K3 was thoroughly tested for pedestrian protection, whiplash, side and frontal accidents, and pole impacts. Tests of the car's ESC system and other Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) features demonstrated Kia's increased emphasis on vehicle safety.
Kia K3 received an impressive 89% rating for adult occupant safety. The crash tests revealed:
Whiplash protection had a satisfactory rating in side and pole impact testing, while protection ranged from good to sufficient. Additionally, the car complied with IJN R32's standards for rear impact structures. AEB systems met Latin NCAP criteria and performed well.
Kia K3 achieved an 84% score in child occupant safety, earning 41 points out of a possible 49. Notable findings include:
The Kia K3 met UN127 standards and had a pedestrian safety rating of 65%. While portions surrounding the windshield and A-pillars were classified as poor or weak, the majority of the head impact zones provided sufficient protection. While upper leg protection was graded as bad, lower leg protection ranged from mediocre to good. For AEB vulnerable road users, the K3 received perfect scores.
In safety aid system evaluations, the Kia K3 received an 81% rating, and its ESC complied with regulations. Road edge recognition, blind spot monitoring, and extensive lane support systems were absent from the model, nevertheless. In dynamic testing, the AEB Interurban system performed mediocre to well.
The Hyundai Verna, which underwent testing in India in 2023, and the Kia K3 share a 5-star rating. The Verna received a 5-star rating after scoring 42 out of 49 for kid safety and 28.18 out of 34 for adult safety. Since the Kia K3 is based on the Verna, its Latin NCAP performance lived up to the high standards set by the stakeholders in both brands.
