KTM has been spotted testing the new 390 SMC R motorcycle in India. This supermoto features a powerful engine and road-focused design elements, making it an exciting addition to KTM's lineup.
KTM’s upcoming motorcycle the new 390 SMC R has been spotted testing in Indian roads. This testing has revealed some of its specifications that we are going to explore today. Firstly, this bike made its appearance in a motor event EICMA, which happened in November 2024. This adventure motorcycle in the 390 segment is generating interest among bikers including adventure lovers and off-roaders.
The spy images reveal that the KTM 390 SMC R runs on 17-inch spoke wheels and shares its frame with the KTM 390 Enduro R. This configuration is designed to boost its performance on roads rather than off-road terrains. The motorcycle also includes a small TFT display, adjustable front forks, and a mono-shock rear suspension, similar to those found in the Enduro R.
Talking about the engine, this motorcycle is equipped with a 399cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that generates 46 PS of power and 39 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox and a bi-directional quickshifter for smooth gear shifting.
The KTM 390 SMC R is expected to outperform its siblings such as the KTM 390 Adventure S and 390 Enduro R, particularly in road performance due to its road-oriented tires and wheel size.
This motorcycle is manufactured at Bajaj’s Chakan plant, it may not launch in India immediately due to the niche market for supermoto bikes, which are not widely recognised in the country.
However, if launched, KTM will be the first to bring this kind of motorcycle to India. A Supermoto would be a great choice because it has long suspension travel for India’s rough roads and road-friendly tires that would excite riders who love winding roads.
If KTM decides to introduce the 390 SMC R in India, it is likely to happen in the second half of 2025 when the company receives enough demand for this supermoto bike to make its launch in the country. The expected price range is between ₹3.2 lakh and ₹3.3 lakh (ex-showroom), which makes this model more expensive than the Duke 390. Currently, there are no direct rivals for this model in India.
