Mahindra & Mahindra closes FY2025 with a record 551,487 SUV sales, narrowing the gap with Tata Motors to just 2,098 units. The SUV-centric strategy and EV push are paying off.
With a relentless focus on SUVs and an expanding, electrified portfolio, M&M closes FY2025 on a high, crossing the 550,000-unit sales mark and narrowing the lead to Tata Motors to just 2,098 units.
Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), one of India’s most dynamic automotive players, has wrapped up FY2025 with its best-ever performance in the passenger vehicle market. Riding high on robust SUV demand and a wide, diversified portfolio, the company has sold a total of 551,487 units, marking a significant year-on-year growth of 91,610 units over FY2024.
This new high builds on the momentum from CY2024, when M&M crossed the half-a-million annual sales milestone for the first time. The latest FY result not only reaffirms the company’s growing strength in the utility vehicle segment but also brings it within striking distance of Tata Motors, India’s No. 3 passenger vehicle OEM. With just 2,098 units separating the two automakers, the race for the third spot in FY2026 promises to be tighter than ever.
An analysis of M&M’s monthly performance in FY2025 shows four standout months where the company crossed the 50,000-unit sales threshold, a milestone once thought elusive for SUV-focused OEMs. September 2024 marked the first-ever 50K month for the company with 51,062 units, followed by an all-time high of 54,504 units in October, fueled by festive demand. March 2025 closed the fiscal with 48,048 units, up 18% year-on-year.
The utility vehicle (UV) segment’s rising dominance in the Indian passenger vehicle market, increasing its share from 59% in FY2024 to 65% in FY2025, has played directly to M&M’s advantage. The company’s all-SUV lineup, now 12 models strong, including rugged body-on-frame workhorses and sleek monocoque crossovers, has capitalized effectively on this market shift.
Based on available data for April 2024 to February 2025, the Mahindra Scorpio (Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic) is the company’s best-selling model with 150,929 units, reaffirming its broad appeal across urban and rural markets.
In second place is the XUV 3XO, the facelifted and repositioned version of the XUV300, which launched in April 2024 at an aggressive Rs 7.49 lakh. It has proven to be a volume generator with 93,851 units sold over 11 months.

The time-tested Bolero range, which includes the Bolero and Bolero Neo Plus, continues to demonstrate remarkable resilience with 86,719 units, narrowly edging out the premium XUV700 (86,231 units). Meanwhile, the Thar and Thar Roxx combined delivered 75,898 units, boosted by the launch of the five-door Thar Roxx on August 14, 2024. With prices ranging from Rs 12.99 lakh to Rs 20.49 lakh, the Thar Roxx is positioned to bring the iconic off-roader into more mainstream consideration, potentially cannibalizing its three-door sibling.
Mahindra’s first true electric offerings under its Born-Electric brand, the BE 6 and XEV 9e, entered the fray in early 2025. Though still ramping up, the two models combined delivered 5,033 units in January and February 2025, signalling a promising start for M&M’s electrification strategy. With rising interest in zero-emission vehicles and strong brand recall, the EVs are expected to contribute meaningfully in FY2026.
Mahindra & Mahindra’s performance in FY2025 is a testament to its sharp SUV-centric strategy, successful product refreshes, and bold foray into electrification. As the utility vehicle segment continues its dominance, M&M is poised to continue its upward trajectory and perhaps, finally dethrone Tata Motors to claim the No. 3 spot in the Indian passenger vehicle hierarchy.
