Maruti Suzuki confirms the launch of its eVX EV in January 2025, featuring a 500 km range and expected price of ₹15 lakh. Read about its competition and charging infrastructure plans.

Maruti About to launch its first EV in January 2025 with 60 kwh of battery

Maruti has confirmed its first electric vehicle eVX to be launched in January 2025 and there have been few leaks about the vehicle. From some sources it is expected to have 60 kWh of battery, with 500 km of range and price is expected to be around 15 lakh. It will directly compete with EVs like the Mahindra XUV400 and Tata Curvv EV

But before that they are planning to expand the ecosystem with installation of a charging system network. Yesterday MG launched its Windsor EV at a very competitive price for an EV and it’s important from an adoption perspective. To make EV acceptable in the market the OEMs will have to match the price with ICE vehicles and better charging station networks.

At an event held in Delhi on September 10, Maruti Suzuki revealed its plans to set up an EV charging network across India. In addition to the charging infrastructure, the company is also exploring the creation of a resale market for electric vehicles.

eVX Unveiling at Bharat Mobility Show

Maruti Suzuki will officially unveil the eVX at the Bharat Mobility Show, scheduled for January next year. The electric car was initially showcased in concept form at the Auto Expo held in Greater Noida last year. Since then, the eVX concept has evolved significantly over the past 18 months into a near-production model. The latest version of the eVX was presented earlier this year at the Indonesian Auto Show.

Development of Maruti’s EV Charging Network

Since the eVX will be Maruti Suzuki’s first-ever EV, the company faces the challenge of creating a charging ecosystem from the ground up. To tackle this, the carmaker plans to leverage its extensive network across India to provide EV customers with a seamless experience.

Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki, emphasised the company's commitment to developing a wide range of solutions to ease EV ownership concerns. "We will come up with a range of solutions for our EV customers to remove their concerns on owning an EV. We will use the strength of our network to give confidence to the customers for after-sale support," he said.

Maruti Suzuki’s Comprehensive EV Ecosystem

As India's largest car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki has the advantage of the country’s most extensive network of sales points and service centers. Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer (Marketing & Sales) at Maruti Suzuki, noted that this vast network will enable the company to offer a comprehensive solution for eVX customers. "We are not only going to launch the product, but we are also going to provide a complete ecosystem for the customers who are going to be part of the electric vehicle family," Banerjee added.
