Key highlights from Narendra Modi's address at Bharat Mobility Expo 2025, focusing on EV growth, sustainability, Make in India, and the transformative potential of India's automotive sector.

Narendra Modi’s Address at Bharat Mobility Expo 2025

Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the remarkable scale and global reach of the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025, noting the participation of over 5,000 exhibitors and an anticipated footfall of more than 5 lakh attendees across three venues. He expressed gratitude to industry stalwarts like Sir Ratan Tata and Osamu Suzuki San, acknowledging their significant contributions to the automotive sector, which continue to inspire innovation and growth.

PM Modi shared insights into the Indian automotive industry’s impressive progress, emphasizing a 12% domestic growth rate and rising export figures, with annual vehicle sales reaching approximately 2.5 crore units. He remarked on India’s status as the fifth-largest economy and the third-largest automotive market, envisioning further advancements as the nation ascends economically.

He emphasized that aspirations and growing consumer demand are pivotal for sustained industry growth. India’s demographic dividend, being the youngest country globally in the coming decades, positions its burgeoning middle class as a future driver of automotive demand, fueled by rising purchasing power. To bolster this growth, the government allocated ₹11 lakh crore in the previous budget for infrastructure development. Enhanced infrastructure, including expressways and highways, is reducing logistics costs and boosting automotive demand while facilitating technological advancements.

Technological Focus and Economic Impact

PM Modi underscored the government’s focus on connected and autonomous vehicles, driven by initiatives like Make in India and the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which has spurred ₹2.25 lakh crore in sales and created over 1.5 lakh jobs. He pointed out that the auto sector’s expansion positively impacts logistics, MSMEs, tourism, and transport. Over the last four years, India attracted $36 billion in foreign investment from global automotive manufacturers.

Sustainability and Green Mobility

Recalling his previous 7C framework for mobility—Common, Connected, Convenient, Congestion-free, Charged, Clean, and Cutting-edge—PM Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to sustainable mobility. He highlighted advances in biofuels, green hydrogen, and sustainable practices.

The Prime Minister noted the dramatic surge in electric vehicle (EV) adoption, with sales rising from negligible figures a decade ago to over 16 lakh EVs today. He projected an eightfold increase by the end of the decade. Under the FAME II scheme, the government allocated over ₹8000 crore, supporting more than 16 lakh EVs, including 5,000 electric buses.

The PM eDrive scheme will offer subsidies for electric commercial vehicles, and more than 70,000 charging stations are planned nationwide. Additionally, the government will facilitate over 38,000 e-buses in smaller towns.

Encouraging Innovation and Investment

PM Modi invited global players and young startups to seize opportunities in India’s battery storage sector, supported by an ₹18,000 crore investment. He emphasized that the vehicle scrappage policy will drive innovation and sustainable practices, urging citizens and businesses to actively participate.
In conclusion, PM Modi reaffirmed that India is the ideal destination for investment in the mobility sector. The government’s robust support, coupled with a rapidly evolving market, positions the nation as a global hub for automotive innovation and sustainable growth.
