Maruti Suzuki has started testing a new SUV based on the Grand Vitara. This spy shot suggests it could be a facelift or a 7-seater model to rival the Hyundai Alcazar.

New Maruti Suzuki EV Spotted Testing: eVX or 7 Seater Grand Vitara

In late 2024, Maruti Suzuki began testing a new SUV, based on the popular Grand Vitara, as seen in recent spy shots. This test mule could either be a facelift of the Grand Vitara, offering more features and creature comforts, or a 7-seater version aimed at competing with the Hyundai Alcazar. The SUV is expected to be positioned between the Maruti XL6 and Invictoin terms of price and features.

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara: A Success in the Compact SUV Segment

Launched in September 2022, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara quickly established itself as a major player in India’s premium compact SUV segment. Competing with the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Curvv, and Honda Elevate, the Grand Vitara has proven to be a solid contender in its class.
With nearly two years since its debut, Maruti Suzuki could be ready to update the Grand Vitara. Typically, three years after a vehicle’s launch is when manufacturers introduce a facelift or a model update. Given this timeline, the test mule seen in the spy shots could likely be a facelifted version of the Grand Vitara or even a new 7-seater variant.

Can It be A Seven Seater Grand Vitara

There has been ongoing speculation about a potential 7-seater version of the Grand Vitara to compete with the Hyundai Alcazar. This test mule has a strong chance of being the 7-seater variant, with some design tweaks to differentiate it from the standard model.

To accommodate the third row of seats, the 7-seater Grand Vitara would likely have a longer overall length and a stretched wheelbase. It’s also expected to offer multiple seating configurations, such as captain seats or a bench seat for the second row.

Test Mule: What We Know So Far

The test mule in question is not likely to be an electric version of the Grand Vitara (eVitara), as it lacks the charging port on the front left quarter panel. Instead, the fuel filler cap is positioned at the left rear quarter panel, in the same location as the current Grand Vitara model.

Though heavily camouflaged, some visual changes are noticeable. The front fascia seems to have undergone minor revisions to create a more distinct appearance. The vehicle retains the split-headlight design with LED DRLs at the top and headlights positioned lower. Additionally, the alloy wheels appear to feature a new five-spoke design, though these too are covered in camouflage. At the rear, the tail lights appear to be redesigned and may feature a connected design for a more modern look.

Conclusion: The Future of Maruti’s New SUV

The latest test mule from Maruti Suzuki raises several questions about the future of the Grand Vitara. Whether it’s a facelift or a 7-seater version, Maruti’s new SUV seems to be geared up for expansion in the highly competitive compact SUV market. With increased features and potential for greater seating capacity, it could become an even more attractive option for buyers looking for a premium Maruti SUV.
