Euro-spec Renault Duster achieves 3-star Euro NCAP rating, scoring well in child protection. India-bound versions are expected to differ, with Bharat NCAP testing likely.
The Euro-spec version of the new Renault Duster, marketed as Dacia in Europe, has recently undergone rigorous crash testing by Euro NCAP, achieving a 3-star safety rating. This Left Hand Drive model, categorized as a "small SUV" in Europe, was equipped with a 1.6L Hybrid engine and weighed 1,422 kg. While this specific version is not destined for the Indian market, it provides insights into the vehicle's safety performance. The India-bound Renault Duster, expected in 2025, will be a localized variant.
The Euro NCAP tests evaluated the vehicle's performance in various crash scenarios:
• Frontal impact: Mobile progressive deformable barrier and full-width rigid barrier tests
• Lateral impact: Side pole and side mobile barrier tests
• Rear impact and ADAS suite assessments
In adult occupant protection, the Duster scored 70% (28.2 out of 40 points), with the passenger compartment remaining stable in frontal tests. Child occupant protection was notably better at 84% (41.6 out of 49 points). Vulnerable Road User (VRU) protection scored 60% (38.2 points), while safety assist features achieved 57%.
Key safety features of the tested model included:
• Front and side airbags
• Front and rear seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters
• ISOFIX mounts in the rear
• Seat Belt reminders for all occupants
• ADAS suite
It's important to note that the India-spec Renault Duster will likely differ from this Euro-spec model. The Indian version is expected to undergo Bharat NCAP testing, which may yield different results due to potential differences in specifications and safety features tailored for the Indian market.
