For India-spec models, Renault is considering range-extender systems that include a small internal combustion engine (ICE) or generator, a battery, and an electric motor to increase the driving range of electric vehicles.
The third-generation Renault Duster has already generated buzz among potential SUV buyers as a series of key specifications have been unveiled through official sources, media reports, and spy shots. The French automaker has recently announced that it is also exploring range-extender and hybrid technologies and CNG and ethanol fuel options for its new-generation vehicles. While more details are to come out, the CNG and strong hybrid powertrain options are expected to be offered with the new Renault Duster. The automaker is likely to rule out mild hybrid and diesel engines.
For India-spec models, Renault is considering range-extender systems that include a small internal combustion engine (ICE) or generator, a battery, and an electric motor to increase the driving range of electric vehicles. The ICE unit will be responsible for either charging the battery or delivering power to the electric motor. It's anticipated that the automaker may localize the production of its all-new Renault Duster and other India-spec models.
The powertrain details of the new Duster hybrid are not available publicly. However, some select global markets have both mild hybrid and strong hybrid powertrain options for the Duster SUV. While the mild hybrid version features a 130 bhp, 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and a 48V starter motor; the strong hybrid model is equipped with a 94 bhp, 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder petrol engine, two electric motors, and a 1.2 kWh battery pack, offering a combined power output of 140 bhp.
The ICE variant of the Renault Duster may feature a 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine, similar to the one available in the Kiger subcompact SUV. The automaker can also use the 1.3-liter turbo petrol engine offered in global-spec Kicks with some India-specific enhancements to deliver slightly superior performance.
While some global markets offer LPG fuel options, the Renault Duster features a 150 bhp, 1.2-liter ECO-G engine paired with 48V MHEV technology, a 4x4 drive system, and a dual-clutch automatic gearbox. However, there is a rare chance that the automaker will offer this option in the Indian market.
