Renault Kwid EV, spied in India, offers a 225 km range, affordable pricing, and stylish features, set to launch in 2025.
Renault is gearing up to make waves in the Indian EV market with the upcoming Renault Kwid EV. Recently, a test version of this electric vehicle (EV) was spotted in India, hinting at its imminent launch. Expected to rival the Tata Punch EV, Citroen eC3, and MG Comet, the Renault Kwid EV promises an exciting mix of features and affordability.
The Renault Kwid EV sports a traditional design, differing from the quirky profiles seen in many EVs. It features familiar LED daytime running lights (DRLs) like those on the new-gen Duster. The charging port is conveniently located at the front, under the DC logo. Key design highlights include a split headlamp setup, a closed-off grille, a single wiper, and a rugged bumper. The side profile showcases squared-off wheel arches, door-side trims, and conventional door handles.
The test vehicle was seen with steel wheels, but higher variants may come with aerodynamically designed alloy wheels. At the rear, it features a rear wiper, integrated spoiler, shark fin antenna, and stylish tail lamps. The dimensions are expected to be similar to the Dacia Spring EV sold internationally, which measures 3,701 mm in length and offers 308 liters of boot space.
Inside, the Renault Kwid EV will boast a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7-inch instrument cluster. The interior will have a minimalist center console, a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, circular AC vents, and a stubby gear lever. A dual-tone interior theme with contrasting white highlights adds to the excitement.
To compete in India's entry-level EV market, the Kwid EV will need a comprehensive range of features. The international Dacia Spring EV offers electrically adjustable door mirrors, vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, a USB charging socket, foldable rear seats for more storage, and handy storage compartments. It also comes with various internet-connected features.
Safety features include electronic stability control, hill start assist, front and rear parking sensors, driver attention alert, rear parking camera, and tire pressure monitoring system. Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as lane-keeping assist, traffic sign recognition, and emergency braking are also available.
The international version of the Dacia Spring EV comes in two variants. The top-spec variant has a 26.8 kWh battery pack, delivering 65 hp and 113 Nm. It offers a range of 225 km and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 13.7 seconds, with a top speed of 125 km/h. The battery can be charged using a 7kW standard AC charger or a 30 kW DC rapid charger. At public charging stations with a 150-kW fast charger, it can charge from 20% to 80% in just around 40 minutes.
With the growing demand for entry-level EVs in India, Renault aims to launch the Kwid EV soon, likely in 2025. Localization efforts should help keep the price affordable. The Dacia Spring EV is among the most affordable EVs in Europe, and the Renault Kwid EV is expected to be launched in India at a starting price of around Rs 11 lakh.
The Renault Kwid EV is poised to make a significant impact in the Indian EV market with its blend of practicality, features, and affordability. Stay tuned for more updates as Renault prepares for the official launch.
