Renault is preparing to launch the third-generation Duster and its larger 3-row sibling, the Bigster, in India by 2025.
Renault India is gearing up to launch the third-generation Duster and its newly unveiled 3-row sibling, the Bigster, in India next year. Here’s everything you need to know about these mid-sized French SUVs.
Renault's subsidiary brand, Dacia, introduced the third-generation Duster to global markets last year, and in October, unveiled its larger 3-row variant, the Bigster, based on the same concept. Both the Duster and Bigster are robust, over 4 metre SUVs featuring a high, sculpted bonnet that optimises the driver’s line of sight, along with a bold, boxy silhouette.
In terms of styling, both SUVs exhibit a rugged charm with minor design variations. The Duster embodies a clean and minimalist look, highlighted by Y-shaped bi-projector LED headlights and a Y-shaped grille. Meanwhile, the Bigster adopts a more dynamic stance, enhanced by a smoky effect on similar elements and carbon-fibre accents around the tail section. The Bigster’s dimensions differ from the Duster, with an additional 230 mm in length and a 43 mm longer wheelbase (extending to 2.7 metres), providing ample space for the 3-row configuration. Ground clearance has also been raised by 3 mm, adding to its commanding presence on the road.
Both the Duster and Bigster are built on the CMF-B platform, a joint modular architecture developed by Renault and Nissan. This platform not only supports spacious interiors and a strong build but also contributes to reduced noise and vibration levels within the cabin. In line with Renault’s sustainability efforts, up to 80% of the plastic used in the interiors and exteriors is made from recycled materials. Additionally, 90% of the components will be localised to keep pricing aggressive in the Indian market.
Inside, the Duster and Bigster are expected to share a similar cabin layout. Both will likely feature premium tri-tone leatherette upholstery and a split digital cockpit setup, highlighted by a 10-inch infotainment unit supporting smartphone mirroring, an 8-inch fully digital instrument cluster, and several tech-driven conveniences. Anticipated features include an auto-dimming IRVM, wireless charging, ventilated front seats with electronic adjustment, dual-zone climate control, a 360-degree camera, a panoramic sunroof, and ADAS Level 2 for enhanced driver assistance.
The new Duster is expected to be available internationally with three engine options: a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol, and a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol. Additionally, a mild hybrid setup is offered with two of these engines. It remains unknown if Renault will include all of these options in the version available to India.
The European-spec Dacia Duster recently completed crash tests conducted by Euro NCAP, earning a 3-star safety rating. The SUV scored 70% in adult occupant protection (AOP), 84% in child occupant protection (COP), 57% for safety assist systems, and 60% in vulnerable road user (VRU) protection.
Renault plans a staggered launch for the two SUVs, starting with the Duster in mid-2025, followed by the Bigster approximately six months later. With their rugged design, sustainable build, spacious interiors, and versatile powertrains, the Duster and Bigster are poised to make a strong impression on the Indian SUV market, bringing modern French styling and advanced features to Indian buyers.
