The 2024 Suzuki Ertiga Cruise Hybrid, launched at IIMS 2024, boasts a stylish redesign, a larger battery, and potential implications for the Indian market.
The ongoing Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) in Jakarta witnessed the grand launch of the 2024 Suzuki Ertiga Cruise Hybrid by PT Suzuki Indomobil Motor. Renowned for its status as one of the best-selling MPVs in India and several South Asian countries, the Ertiga received a stylish makeover and a significant upgrade to its hybrid powertrain.
The Ertiga Cruise Hybrid comes with a starting price of IDR 288 Million for the manual variant, approximately Rs. 15.3 lakh (ex-showroom) in Indian currency. The automatic variant is priced at IDR 301 Million, translating to around Rs. 16 lakh (ex-showroom). The Cruise model boasts an exclusive Pearl White + Cool Black dual-tone and Cool Black color options, offering a sportier alternative to the regular Ertiga.
Suzuki has introduced several design enhancements to the Ertiga Cruise, making it stand out from its predecessor. The sportier version includes features such as a shorter antenna, a front bumper with an under spoiler, side under spoiler, side body decal, rear upper spoiler, and a sporty rear bumper with an under spoiler. Notably, the Ertiga Cruise Hybrid is equipped with LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), a notable absence in the regular Ertiga model.
The Ertiga Cruise Hybrid is powered by the K15B Smart Hybrid powertrain, now featuring a larger 10-ah battery. This upgrade is anticipated to contribute to improved fuel efficiency. The 1.5-liter petrol engine delivers 104 PS of power and 138 Nm of torque. While the claimed mileage in India is over 20 kmpl, the larger battery in the Ertiga Cruise raises questions about its potential implementation in the Indian lineup.
Maruti Suzuki's Indian lineup currently features the K15B Smart Hybrid powertrain in the Ciaz model. However, with the Ciaz possibly reaching the end of its life cycle and sedan sales declining, the adoption of the larger battery in the Indian market remains uncertain. Furthermore, the sportier design updates seen in the Indonesia-spec Ertiga Cruise may not make their way to India, as they could affect the sales of the upmarket and sporty XL6 model.
