With the decision to discontinue all ACFC variants of the Punch EV, the automaker aims to improve customers’ clarity during the purchase process, as well as their confidence and the speed of their buying decisions.
Tata Motors is a leading automobile manufacturer with flagship electric vehicles in the market. However, the Indian automaker has been experiencing a significant loss of market share on a year-over-year basis. Tata Motors has started revamping its electric portfolio to provide better clarity for customers during their purchase journey. As part of this strategy, Tata Motors has discontinued all the ACFC variants of Punch EVs.
Tata ranks top when offering several variants for a particular model. By offering a range of variants, the automaker aims to provide customers with ample and highly customizable options to meet their requirements. Having so many options for a single model also creates confusion and a lack of customer confidence.
With the decision to discontinue all ACFC variants of the Punch EV, the automaker aims to improve customers’ clarity during the purchase process, as well as their confidence and the speed of their buying decisions. Based on Tata Motors’ dealer partners, it will also streamline the grade walk.
Currently, there are 6 ACFC (AC Fast Charging) variants of Punch EV, including Adventure LR ACFC, Adventure S LR (ACFC), Empowered LR ACFC, Empowered S LR ACFC, Empowered Plus LR ACFC, and Empowered Plus S LR ACFC. All six variants of the Punch EV ACFC were offered with a 7.2 kW fast charger, allowing customers to charge their Punch EV from 10% to 100% in just 5 hours of charging.
The ACFC versions of the Punch EV come with a 7.2 kW fast charger, which incurs an additional cost of Rs 50,000. While the non-ACFC variants take 13.5 hours to charge EV 10-100%, the 7.2 kW units charge the EV in just 5 hours. Tata Motors discontinued these variants after comprehensive market research and customer buying trends. However, the existing inventory will continue to sell until the last stock. Additionally, the ex-showroom prices for non-ACFC variants are likely to remain the same, as this decision does not affect these variants.
Currently, the MR versions of the Punch EV come with a 25 kWh battery pack that delivers up to 265 km of range, while the LR version, with a 35 kWh battery, offers up to 365 km of range. The MR variants have a peak performance of 80 bhp and 114 Nm of torque, while the LR variants offer 120 bhp and 190 Nm of torque. Moreover, the more powerful LR variants can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds, which is a promising performance figure for the range.
