November 2024 was particularly notable, as several models demonstrated resilience and growth despite fluctuating sales trends.
The SUV segment in India continues to thrive, holding over 50% of the total market share. The competitive landscape saw some familiar names returning to the top spots, with the Hyundai Creta leading the pack once again. This article delves into the top 10 SUVs sold in November, highlighting their sales figures, growth rates, and market dynamics.
1. Hyundai Creta
The Hyundai Creta remains a dominant force in the Indian SUV market, securing its position as the best-selling SUV with 15,452 units sold in November. Although this figure marks a decrease from 17,497 units sold in October, it represents a significant 30% increase compared to the same month last year. Since its launch earlier this year, the Creta has achieved remarkable sales milestones, reaching over 100,000 units within six months of its release.
2. Tata Punch
Tata's smallest SUV, the Punch, made a strong showing in November, selling 15,435 units and reclaiming its position among the top three SUVs. This figure reflects a 7% increase year-on-year but is slightly down from October's sales of 15,740 units. The Punch competes with models like the Hyundai Exter and Maruti Suzuki Fronx and has proven to be a popular choice among buyers looking for a compact SUV.
3. Tata Nexon
The Tata Nexon returned to the top three with 15,329 units sold, marking an increase from 14,759 units in October. Compared to November last year, Nexon’s sales have grown by approximately 3%. This model has been a consistent competitor against Maruti Suzuki's Brezza and showcases Tata's strength in the sub-compact SUV segment.
Once a leader in its category, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza sold 14,918 units in November, down from 16,565 units in October. Despite this decline, it still experienced an increase of about 11% compared to November last year when it sold 13,393 units. The Brezza's performance highlights the intense competition within the sub-compact SUV market.
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx recorded impressive growth as it climbed to fifth place with 14,882 units sold, achieving a remarkable 51% increase compared to November last year (when only 9,867 units were sold). However, its sales dipped from October's figures of 16,419 units, indicating that while it is gaining traction overall, seasonal fluctuations still affect its performance.
6. Mahindra Scorpio
The Mahindra Scorpio brand continues to perform well with combined sales of both the Scorpio-N and Scorpio Classic reaching 12,704 units in November. This is a slight increase from last year's figures but shows a decrease from October’s sales of 15,677 units. The Scorpio remains one of Mahindra's flagship models and retains strong brand loyalty among consumers.
7. Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara
The Grand Vitara, another offering from Maruti Suzuki, secured seventh place with sales of 10,148 units, reflecting a growth rate of nearly 28% compared to last year. However, this figure is down from October's sales of 14,083 units, indicating that while it has potential for growth, it faces stiff competition from other models.
8. Hyundai Venue
Despite Hyundai's overall success with the Creta, the sub-compact Venue struggled in November with only 10,901 units sold, which is about a 6% decrease from last year's figures (11,581 units). This places it eighth on the list and highlights challenges faced by smaller SUVs against more popular rivals like Brezza and Nexon.
9. Kia Sonet
The Kia Sonet managed to sell 9,255 units, marking an impressive growth rate of 44% compared to November last year when only 6,433 units were delivered. As Kia's best-selling model currently surpassing the Seltos in sales numbers, it demonstrates strong consumer interest and brand loyalty.
10. Mahindra XUV700
Rounding out the top ten is Mahindra's flagship model, the XUV700, which sold 9,100 units in November. This represents a solid growth rate of approximately 26% compared to last year but reflects a decline from October’s sales of 10,435 units.
The data indicates that while some SUVs have experienced declines month-over-month due to seasonal factors or increased competition during festive periods like Diwali (which typically sees higher sales), many have shown resilience with year-on-year growth rates remaining positive.
- The resurgence of models like Tata Punch and Nexon suggests that Tata Motors is effectively capturing consumer interest through competitive pricing and features.
- Maruti Suzuki continues to dominate with multiple entries on this list but must contend with rising competition from Tata and Mahindra.
- Hyundai maintains its leadership position primarily due to strong performances from both Creta and Venue but must innovate continuously to fend off emerging competitors.
The Indian SUV market remains robust and competitive as evidenced by the performance of these top-selling models in November 2024. With changing consumer preferences towards compact SUVs for urban mobility combined with increasing disposable incomes driving purchases in this segment, manufacturers must remain agile and responsive to maintain their market positions. As we move forward into 2025 and beyond, ongoing innovation and adaptation will be key for all players involved in this dynamic automotive landscape.
