Toyota Kirloskar Motor has recorded its best-ever fiscal year in India, selling over 300,000 units in FY2025, driven by strong MPV and SUV demand and rebadged models.

In a landmark year marking its 25th anniversary of manufacturing operations in India, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has reported its best-ever sales performance in the country. The Japanese carmaker clocked wholesale dispatches of 309,334 passenger vehicles in FY2025, not only registering a robust 26% year-on-year growth over FY2024’s 245,676 units but also crossing the significant 300,000-unit milestone for the first time in a fiscal year.

This performance comes on the back of a consistent growth trajectory observed since FY2023 and mirrors the strong demand for Toyota’s multipurpose vehicles (MPVs), sport utility vehicles (SUVs), and its four rebadged models developed in collaboration with Suzuki Motor Corporation.

Earlier in CY2024, Toyota also crossed the 300,000-unit milestone on a calendar year basis, dispatching 300,159 vehicles. This propelled India to become Toyota Motor Corporation’s fourth-largest global market, overtaking established markets like Canada, Indonesia, and Thailand. India was also the fastest-growing market for Toyota globally and its largest outside the top three (China, the U.S., and Japan).

Among Toyota’s wide portfolio, MPVs and SUVs remain the strongest pillars. The Innova twins, Crysta and Hycross together accounted for 97,348 units, comprising 35% of Toyota’s total sales in the first 11 months of FY2025 (280,902 units). The Hycross, powered by a fuel-efficient hybrid system that enables it to run in EV mode up to 60% of the time, is the more popular variant, making up an estimated 55% of Innova sales.

The Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Toyota’s compact SUV with hybrid and AWD options emerged as the second-best performer, while the Glanza hatchback, a rebadged Maruti Baleno, secured third spot with 45,338 units. In January 2025, the Glanza also crossed 200,000 cumulative sales since its launch in mid-2019.

Notably, the Urban Cruiser Taisor, a recent entry in Toyota’s portfolio, sold an impressive 28,910 units within 10 months of launch, quickly establishing itself in the competitive compact SUV space. The Rumion MPV, also a rebadged Maruti model, contributed a healthy 20,085 units to Toyota’s tally.

Toyota's collaboration with Suzuki has borne significant results. The quartet of rebadged models Glanza, Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Urban Cruiser Taisor, and Rumion have found solid traction, particularly in Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets, where value, hybrid efficiency, and low maintenance remain key drivers.

Toyota’s outstanding FY2025 performance not only reaffirms its growing footprint in India but also reflects shifting consumer preference toward larger, more versatile vehicles such as SUVs and MPVs. As the brand leverages its strong hybrid portfolio and strategic alliances, Toyota-Kirloskar Motors is well-positioned to continue this growth trajectory.

With sustained monthly averages of 25,777 units in FY2025 (up from 20,473 in FY2024), and growing acceptance of its product range across segments, Toyota is now firmly in the league of India’s top-performing automakers, with eyes set on an even more formidable FY2026.
