TVS owned, Norton Motorcycles has unveiled the redesigned Commando 961 motorcycle. The Norton Commando 961 comes in two trims- Café Racer & Sport.
Norton Motorcycles has revealed the completely redesigned Commando 961 motorcycle. TVS Motor Company paid 16 million GBP for the British two-wheeler company in April 2020. At the time, the Indian company stated that Norton Motorcycles may expand into new countries by leveraging TVS' global network and supply chain skills. Subsequently then, TVS has invested up to 100 million GBP in Norton Motorcycles, and the brand has since debuted the Norton V4SV and V4CR. The Commando 961 is an iconic name in British motorcycle history, and Norton has worked hard to build a motorcycle that keeps its vintage aesthetics and soundtrack while being built to a "entirely new level".
Dr. Robert Hentschell, CEO of Norton Motorcycles said:
“The Norton Commando is a brand in itself, impacting popular culture for decades," Christian Gladwell, Chief Commercial Officer of Norton Motorcycles said. “It’s been some years since the sound of a new Commando engine has echoed through UK streets and we’re delighted to be able to offer our customers this experience once again.”
The Norton Commando 961 has been launched in two variations in the United Kingdom. The first is the 'Commando 961 Sport,' also known as the 961 SP. The Commando 961 Sport is a true modern-classic motorbike with a comfortable riding position, upright handlebars, and an optional pillion seat. The "more limited" 'Commando 961 Café Racer, on the other hand, gets an aggressive seating posture and a set of clip-on handlebars.
Because of its forward-leaning 961-cc parallel-twin engine and cut-out 15-litre petrol tank, the Commando 961 has a low profile. The dry-sump lubricated air-cooled engine produces 76.8 horsepower at 7,250 rpm and a hefty 81 Nm at 6,300 rpm. The motorcycle is equipped with 43-mm Ohlins USD forks that are adjustable for preload, compression, and rebound damping. The motorcycle's rear suspension is equipped with a set of fully adjustable Ohlins shocks. The motorcycle's stopping power is handled by a Brembo brake arrangement, which also includes radial mount calipers at the front and ABS as standard.
The entirely analogue - and round - speedometer and tachometer keep the antique vibe alive. There's also a little digital inlay for a trip computer. The polished stainless-steel headlight is a nice touch. The Commando 961's fit and finish are excellent, as expected, with the use of aerospace grade billet aluminium completing the premium feel.
The motorcycle comes in two color options: Matrix Black and Manx Platinum. The Manx Platinum finish is finished with black and ruby red pinstriping and polished wheels. The Matrix Black color, on the other hand, has gold pinstriping and black wheels. On the Matrix Black, polished wheels are also an option.
