VinFast, the Vietnamese EV giant, expands into India with the Klara S electric scooter patent. This follows a groundbreaking event for its Tamil Nadu plant, marking rapid progression and promising innovation in India's EV landscape.

VinFast, the prominent Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has taken a significant step towards expanding its presence in the Indian market. Following the recent groundbreaking ceremony for its manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu, the company has now registered a design patent for one of its electric scooters, the Klara S, in India.

Rapid Progression

The move comes merely days after VinFast's groundbreaking event for its 400-acre EV manufacturing facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, on February 25, 2024. This development marks a rapid progression since the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between VinFast and the Tamil Nadu government.

VinFast and Klara S Scooter: Introduction

Established in 2017, VinFast gained recognition for its premium electric cars, but the company also boasts a diverse range of electric scooters available in its domestic market. Among these offerings is the Klara S, for which VinFast has now secured a design trademark in India.

Klara S Electric Scooter: Key Features

The Klara S electric scooter distinguishes itself with a hub motor boasting 1.8kW nominal power and 3kW peak power, capable of achieving a top speed of 78kph, a performance akin to the popular TVS iQube. However, what sets it apart is its utilization of an LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery, featuring a capacity of 3.5kWh, in contrast to conventional Li-ion batteries.

Impressive Performance and Specifications

VinFast asserts an impressive range of 194km with a 65kg rider traveling steadily at 30kph, despite the inherent weight of LFP batteries. Remarkably, the Klara S manages to maintain a relatively lightweight profile, tipping the scales at 122kg. The scooter is equipped with a 14-inch front wheel, along with front and rear disc brakes, offering enhanced control and safety. Additionally, it features a spacious 23-litre boot and boasts a comfortable seat height of 760mm.

Market Potential and Pricing Strategy

In its home market of Vietnam, the VinFast Klara S electric scooter is priced at approximately Rs 1.18 lakh. However, the company's pricing strategy for the Indian market remains undisclosed, leaving consumers and industry experts eagerly awaiting further announcements regarding the potential launch of this innovative product in India.

CarBike360 Says

VinFast's patenting of the Klara S design in India signifies a significant stride in the company's global expansion ambitions, as it seeks to capitalize on the burgeoning demand for electric mobility solutions in one of the world's largest markets. With its commitment to innovation and sustainable transportation, VinFast is poised to make a notable impact on India's rapidly evolving EV landscape.
