  • Aesthetically pleasing with Biscay Blue exterior and 18-inch alloys.

In a bid to make Brazilian President Lula da Silva's visit to the Volkswagen plant in São Bernardo do Campo (SP) truly unforgettable, the automotive giant unveiled a one-of-a-kind prototype - the Virtus Cabrio. This unique convertible, a modified version of the Virtus sedan, not only looks stunning but also promises practicality with its distinctive features.

Virtus Convertible

Unlike conventional roof removals in car customization, the Virtus Cabrio project involved extensive modifications to the Virtus sedan. The primary objective was to ensure a comfortable sitting and standing position for the distinguished guest during a complete plant tour. The ambitious project had a tight deadline of six weeks, engaging a team of 30 professionals.

To accommodate the convertible transformation, the B and C pillars were entirely removed, requiring the addition of reinforced structures to maintain rigidity. The second row received extra space, allowing for seamless transitions between sitting and standing positions. This involved lengthening the floor and resizing the fuel tank. Custom-built rear seats replaced stock ones, complemented by a transverse bar for guest support during standing moments.

Colors, Wheels, and Interior Themes

The Virtus Convertible pays homage to the Brazilian flag with its Biscay Blue exterior. Complementing this vibrant color are 18-inch sporty alloy wheels featuring a dual-tone finish. The interior adopts a sleek black theme, with modifications extending to the dashboard and door inserts.

Due to the removal of the roof and pillars, various finishing parts had to be reimagined. The opening/closing mechanisms for the doors, fuel tank, and seats underwent modifications, along with adjustments to the sedan's electronic vehicle management systems.

Performance Under the Hood

Powering the Virtus Cabrio is the 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine, generating 150 PS of maximum power and 250 Nm of peak torque. Paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, this engine choice adds an extra layer of excitement to the topless experience. It's worth noting that the engine options for the Virtus vary between Brazil and India, with the latter featuring a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine and a 1.5-litre TSI EVO.
