The 2024 Tata Altroz Racer blends power and innovation, boasting upgraded engines and advanced features, poised to rival competitors in style and performance.

2024 Tata Altroz Racer: Spy Shots Reveal Bigger Screen, Power Boost

Key Highlights

  • 2024 Tata Altroz Racer spied with enhanced 1.2 TGDi engine.

  • More power (125 bhp) and torque (225 Nm) at lower RPMs.

  • Innovative TGDi technology with aluminum block.

  • Striking exterior features: blackened wheels, roof, and bonnet stripes.

  • Advanced 10.2-inch infotainment, wireless connectivity.

  • Competitive pricing to undercut Hyundai i20 N Line.

Tata Motors is gearing up for a significant upgrade to its engine lineup, with a focus on performance and fuel efficiency. The company is evolving its 1.2L petrol engine and concurrently developing a brand new 1.5L petrol engine. These engines promise enhanced power, cleaner combustion, and improved fuel efficiency. The latest development involves the Tata Altroz Racer, which has been spotted during emission testing, showcasing a more powerful tune than the Altroz i-Turbo.

Automotive enthusiast Satya recently captured images of the new Tata Altroz Racer undergoing emission testing near Pune. Despite minimal exterior changes, the Altroz Racer is expected to stand out with blackened wheels, a black roof, and a black bonnet adorned with white racing stripes. As motoring journalist Richard Hammond puts it, "only cool cars get a black bonnet."

Rivaling the Competition

Initially showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo, the Tata Altroz Racer is positioned to rival the Hyundai i20 N Line. Rumours suggest that it will be equipped with Tata’s new 1.2 TGDI engine, promising higher performance than the Altroz i-Turbo currently available in the Indian market. The new 1.2L TGDi engine is anticipated to debut with either the Curvv or Altroz Racer, both slated for launch in 2024.

Power and Torque Upgrade

The new 1.2L TGDi engine is expected to generate 125 bhp at 5,000 RPM and 225 Nm of torque between 1,700 and 3,500 RPM. In comparison to the existing Nexon and Altroz Racer engines producing 120 bhp at 5,500 RPM and 170 Nm between 1,750 and 4,000 RPM, the new engines promise more power and torque at lower RPMs. The transmission options are likely to include Tata’s new 7-speed DCT and a manual gearbox.

Innovative Engine Technology

Tata's new range of engines adopts Turbocharged Gasoline Direct Injection (TGDi) technology. These engines feature a full aluminium block, providing a lighter and stiffer construction. The inclusion of dual cam phasing allows for variable valve timing characteristics, enhancing efficiency at lower revs and providing more power at higher revs. Other improvements include integrated exhaust manifolds, a variable oil pump, and water-cooling for the turbo, ensuring optimal performance.

New Features Expected with Altroz Racer

In addition to the advanced engine technology, the Tata Altroz Racer is anticipated to come equipped with a new 10.2-inch infotainment screen featuring wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. While it may not adopt the new-age 2-spoke steering wheel or the touch and toggle-style climate control panel seen in the Punch EV, a single-pane sunroof is expected. With these enhancements, the Altroz Racer aims to offer a compelling package at a competitive price point, undercutting the Hyundai i20 N Line. The expected price range for the Tata Altroz Racer is between Rs. 9.5 lakh to Rs. 12 lakh (ex-showroom).
