Amazon.com Inc, the retail behemoth has begun releasing a few of the electric delivery vans it built with Rivian. This is a major step towards their goal to achieve net-zero carbon emission across the entire business.
Amazon.com Inc. made another significant announcement on July 21. It explained how it planned to start distributing a few of the electric delivery vehicles Amazon had previously built in collaboration with Rivian Automotive. When he was still the company's CEO in September 2019, Jeff Bezos, the company's founder, announced the alliance at Washington, D.C.'s National Press Club.
Bezos announced live on stage that Amazon has purchased 100,000 electric cars from Rivian, an automaker, for the e-commerce behemoth. He added that this partnership was a continuation of its trailblazing objective to achieve net-zero carbon emissions across the whole business in the following 20 years.
The retail behemoth unveiled this car in October of the following year after testing it in several US locations the year before. As of right now, Amazon has described how it will employ these vans to make deliveries in a number of places, including Seattle, San Diego, Dallas, Tennessee, Nashville, etc. Additionally, it noted that by the end of 2022, it anticipates "thousands" of these vehicles in more than 100 cities. By doing this, Amazon would finally be one step closer to achieving its goal of having 100,000 such cars operating by 2030.
Jassy emphasized the necessity of consistent "activity and innovations" to mitigate the effects of climate change and the ways in which the company is working with others who share the same opinions to do so. He continued by stating how Rivian has become a notable "partner" in this scheme and expressed his excitement over the outcomes of the collaboration.
The founding of such a vehicle, according to R.J. Scaringe, chief executive of the automobile startup, is a breakthrough in attempts to control the negative consequences of climate change.
Because of its vast delivery network and internal operations for the majority of its activities, Amazon largely relies on a number of contracted delivery companies. As a result, the use of its distinctive Amazon delivery vans results in the enormous use of fossil fuels.

Rivian also battled additional challenges, such as having to lower its 2022 output target by 50%, which included the venture's automobiles. However, the figure was revised at the start of July 2022. Additionally, Amazon reaffirmed its commitment to continuing to fund the project by the automaker.
