Apple CarPlay & Bluetooth services in cars and their similarities & differences has been discussed in this article.
Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth have been compared from time to time. Let's see what are the functionalities of both and what are their differences.
In this complex world of linked automobile technology, it's becoming increasingly difficult to understand what particular functions do and don't accomplish.
If you weren't born with an umbilical cord to your mobile device, you'd be excused for mistaking Apple's phone-mirroring programme CarPlay for Bluetooth, because both allow you to play content from your phone over your car's speakers.
Bluetooth and CarPlay are, in reality, independent features.
Bluetooth employs short-range radio frequencies to transport data - in the case of our automobiles, calling and audio output through the car's speakers. It's relatively simple technology currently, but it's becoming more dependable as device and chip build quality has increased.
The only time anyone complains about Bluetooth is when it doesn't connect right away, but the solution is generally the classic 'turn it off and back on again' power cycle.
Apple CarPlay, on the other hand, is a bit more advanced, notably in that it can connect to the car's infotainment system by cable OR wirelessly, depending on which kind of car you have.
It's the phone-mirroring polar opposite of Google's Android Auto. CarPlay, like its Google counterpart, shows the applications on your phone on the car's Centre Display.
Naturally, not all programme are transferable; for example, Angry Birds, Candy Crush, and League of Legends are not available on the large screen by default.
Apple has intentionally handpicked the applications that appear, because certain ones that demand more input - texting, for example - have been built to prevent such engagement from the driver. As a result, if you want to use messaging, you must use voice control to create the message. Siri will also read back your texts as you drive.
The theory is that because you're already accustomed with the Apple interface, you'll recognize icons faster and so be less distracted when driving while changing music or using Apple Maps.
To compete with Google Maps, Maps just received an upgrade that included photographs, company information, and promotions.
And that's not all; at some time in the future, CarPlay will get its hands on the cluster display and take control of some of the switchgear - if any vehicle manufacturer is courageous enough to integrate it, of course.
As long as you have a vehicle with factory-supported CarPlay connectivity, getting started is simple. CarPlay is available as a cabled connection in the majority of new automobiles. Once you've hooked in, the car's display will ask whether you want to launch the app and provide an icon for you to choose. Alternatively, the connection will run the Apple CarPlay software automatically.
You must ensure that your iPhone is not blocking CarPlay. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, then touch Allowed Apps to activate CarPlay.
Apple CarPlay is merely an application on your car's infotainment suite's operating system, similar to Word or Excel on your PC's desktop. When you connect, the app runs and you may use the center display to access certain applications on your phone.
Streaming services such as Spotify, BBC Sounds, and TuneIn Radio have been made available, allowing drivers to access online radio stations rather than being confined to the DAB channels on the vehicle radio.
WhatsApp and Telegram chat services are accessible, however as previously said, they operate differently in the automobile to avoid distracting drivers.
BMW attempted to charge a monthly or yearly cost for activating Apple CarPlay in 2019, but then altered its mind and returned to a one-time price.
While most vehicle manufacturers utilize Apple CarPlay integration to justify the purchase price, there's always the possibility that, like heated seat subscriptions, car manufacturers will try to monetize this function in the future.
If your car does not already have CarPlay, there are aftermarket solutions available in some countries like UK to enable this capability.
These options normally include replacing the present head unit, which is the console in the center of the automobile, and they are not inexpensive. If you merely want to receive music streaming services into your car via your phone, you may check at other options, such as the Pure Highway line.
When using any of these remedies, keep in mind that it is unlawful to use your phone while driving, and the consequences can be severe.
If you've reset your phone and activated CarPlay on your iPhone (as described above), and you're still having trouble, double-check your Bluetooth connection and USB cord by using a different cable. If your phone has all the latest updates and your car is equipped with CarPlay, and you're still having problems, contact your local dealer for your car model.
