Mercedes-Benz introduces the 2024 E-Class LWB in India with advanced tech, premium features, and a starting price of ₹78.5 lakh. Learn about its engine specs, safety, and rivals.

BMW 5 Series LWB Competitor Mercedes E-Class LWB is Finally Launched at Rs 78.5 Lakh

The new-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB (Long Wheelbase) has been launched in India, with prices starting at ₹78.5 lakh (ex-showroom, introductory) for the E200 variant. As Mercedes-Benz's best-selling model in India, the latest E-Class takes luxury and comfort up a notch, bringing it closer to the flagship S-Class. This is the second-generation E-Class in the long-wheelbase format for the Indian market, and it is locally assembled at Mercedes' Chakan facility in Maharashtra.

In addition to the E200, Mercedes-Benz is also offering the E220d, priced at ₹81.5 lakh (ex-showroom). Deliveries for the E220d are expected to begin by Diwali 2024. Moreover, the E 450 has been introduced at ₹92.5 lakh (ex-showroom), with deliveries scheduled for later this year. All prices mentioned are introductory.

Exterior and Design

The new-gen E-Class LWB features a bold design update with a more prominent front profile. A larger grille with mini tri-pointed star inserts and chrome surrounds gives it a striking appearance. The redesigned LED headlamps now come with new signature LED DRLs, providing a sharper look. The side profile emphasises the extended wheelbase, with 18-inch alloy wheels and flush-fitting door handles adding a modern touch.

At the rear, the sedan sports wraparound LED taillights with a tri-pointed star pattern. The revised bumper, enhanced with chrome accents, adds to the premium feel. The E-Class LWB is available in five colors: Obsidian Black, High Tech Silver, Graphite Grey, Polar White, and Nautic Blue.
Dimensionally, the new E-Class LWB has grown longer by 17 mm, now measuring 5092 mm, while its height has been reduced by 2 mm to 1493 mm. The wheelbase has also increased by 15 mm, reaching 3094 mm.

Interior and Features

Fully loaded with technology the new E-Class LWB cabin has amazing updates, such as the addition of a "Superscreen." Three sizable screens have been integrated into the dashboard: a 12.3-inch digital driver's display, a 14.4-inch central touchscreen infotainment system, and a 12.3-inch front passenger entertainment screen. The interior is fully equipped with leather upholstery and high-quality materials. A new digital vent control system that lets passengers modify airflow with a touchscreen is also included.

Comfort in the rear seat has been given priority, and seats may be raised by up to 40 mm thanks to electronic adjustments. Soft headrests and electrically operated sun blinds are included, and the backrest may be reclined up to 36 degrees for maximum relaxation.

Other standout features include:

  • 64-colour ambient lighting
  • Four-zone climate control
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Dual wireless phone chargers
  • Powered front seats with memory function
  • 730W 17-speaker Burmester 4D sound system
  • Powered tailgate

Safety Features: Advanced Protection

Safety is a priority in the new E-Class LWB, which comes equipped with multiple airbags, including a center airbag that opens between the front passengers during side collisions. Other key safety features include:

  • ABS with EBD
  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • 360-degree camera

Additionally, the E-Class LWB is packed with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), such as lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control.

Engine Specifications: Petrol and Diesel Options

The 2.0-liter petrol and diesel engines of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB are fitted with 48-volt mild hybrid technology. A 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 194 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque powers the E200 version.

A 2.0-liter diesel engine producing 197 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque powers the E220d. Both engines are combined with a 9-speed automatic transmission, providing power to the rear wheels. For this generation, Mercedes has discontinued offering six-cylinder engine options.

Rivals: Competing in the Luxury Segment

The new-gen Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB competes against the recently launched BMW 5 Series LWB and the Audi A6 in the Indian luxury sedan market.
