The 5-door electric SUV Atto 3 from Chinese automaker BYD received a 5-star safety certification in Euro NCAP crash tests. The rating is valid for all left-hand drive and right-hand drive setups.
BYD has introduced the Atto 3 in India, with an expected debut date of November 2022.

Euro NCAP tested the Atto 3's base Active model, which includes 7 airbags, including a central front airbag, seat belt pretensioners, ISOFIX anchorages, and even ADAS technologies like autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, and speed assist system - all as standard. All of these features will also be available on the India-spec variant.
To begin with, the Atto 3 received a 91 percent rating in the adult occupant protection area, scoring 34.7 out of a possible 38 points. The Atto 3 provided good or acceptable protection to both the driver and passengers in both the frontal deformable offset barrier test and the full-width rigid barrier test. It likewise received maximum points in the side impact test; but, it provided inadequate protection to the driver's chest area in the more severe side pole test.
Even in the kid occupancy protection test, the electric SUV received maximum points for both the frontal offset test and the side barrier impact test, providing adequate protection to dummies aged 6 to 10 years. The front passenger airbag can be deactivated to enable for the deployment of a rearward-facing child restraint in that seating position. It did, however, lose a few points since it lacked an integrated CRS (child restraint system), scoring 44 out of 49 points, or 89 percent.
In terms of pedestrian protection, the Atto 3 scored 69 percent, or 37.5 out of 72 available points. The bonnet provided good or acceptable protection to pedestrians' heads, with some bad spots on the rigid windscreen pillars. The bumper provided adequate protection for pedestrians' legs, but essentially little protection for the pelvic region.
In most test scenarios, the Atto 3's automated emergency braking (AEB) system and lane support system functioned effectively, scoring 74% or 12 out of 16 points in safety assist systems.

After the e6 MPV, the Atto 3 will be BYD's second model in India. While prices will be disclosed next month, the business has begun accepting reservations for the electric SUV for a nominal fee of Rs 50,000. The first 500 units will be delivered in January 2023. The SUV will be sent to India as a CKD unit and manufactured at the carmaker's Sriperumbudur plant in Chennai.
