BYD's Dolphin EV, with a 427 km range, cutting-edge features, and 5-star safety, promises to reshape India's electric vehicle landscape.
Chinese electric vehicle (EV) giant BYD is set to make waves in the Indian market with its latest offering – the BYD Dolphin EV. With an impressive length of 4.3 meters, a remarkable range of 427 kilometers, and a 5-star EURO NCAP safety rating, the Dolphin is assured to compete in the rapidly growing Indian electric vehicle segment.
BYD has already established its presence in India with the Atto 3 and E6 electric MPV models. The company has strategically positioned itself by offering a range of EVs, catering to various market segments, from entry-level to luxury.
Recently trademarked in India, the Dolphin is a crucial addition to BYD's Ocean lineup. The Dolphin's name represents BYD's global ambitions, targeting key markets such as Australasia, Europe, Thailand, Malaysia, Brazil, Japan, and its home market in China.
In the competitive and price-sensitive Indian market, BYD aims to make a significant impact. The Dolphin, alongside other upcoming models like the Seagull and Seal, is expected to solidify BYD's position in India's steadily growing automotive sector.
The Dolphin measures 4,290 mm in length, 1,770 mm in width, and 1,570 mm in height, featuring a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. Positioned below the Atto 3, the Dolphin will compete with other popular EVs like the MG ZS EV and upcoming models from Tata, Hyundai, and Citroen.
While the exterior design is conservative, the Dolphin's interior is a showcase of technology and features. A massive 12.8-inch rotatable touchscreen infotainment screen dominates the multi-layered dashboard. The vehicle boasts keyless entry, PM2.5 air filter, a 5-inch digital instrument cluster, an electronic parking brake, leatherette upholstery, a panoramic glass roof, powered and ventilated front seats, TPMS, 360-degree camera, ADAS suite, and an attractive interior trim color options.
Safety remains a top priority for BYD, as reflected in the Dolphin's 5-star EURO NCAP safety rating. This commitment to safety aligns with the growing importance Indian consumers place on secure and reliable transportation.
The BYD Dolphin offers two battery options – 44.9 kWh and 60.48 kWh. With a single-motor front-wheel-drive layout, the power ranges from 94 to 201 bhp, with torque between 180 and 310 Nm. Imported from China to Malaysia without taxes, the Dolphin starts at RM 99,990 (Rs. 17.4 lakh). Indian consumers can expect prices starting around Rs. 25 lakhs after factoring in import duties.
