Honda is preparing to launch its electric scooter in India on 27 November. This scooter will feature two removable batteries housed in the boot, a 7-inch TFT display, a swingarm-mounted motor, and a claimed range of up to 104 km in Standard mode.
Honda is set to upgrade its electric scooter to launch in India. This scooter widely known as the Honda Activa Electric, is an eco-friendly alternative for daily commuters and Indian households. The latest teaser reveals that this scooter will feature two removable batteries installed in the boot space, similar to the setup of CUV-e. Here's everything you need to know about this upcoming electric scooter.
Activa Electric is speculated to be based on the Honda CUV-e electric scooter shown at EICMA 2024. This India-bound model closely resembles the CUV-e in both looks and functionality.
Several teasers released earlier have confirmed that the scooter will have a swingarm-mounted motor, similar to the CUV-e, which ensures smooth and efficient performance. Additionally, the scooter will equipped with a 7-inch TFT display, the same as the international version seen at EICMA. However, one of the most notable features of the India-spec model is the presence of two removable batteries housed conveniently in the boot, which is a key design element taken from the CUV-e.
While detailed specifications have yet to be disclosed, Honda's global website lists each battery at 1.3 kWh for the CUV-e. Internationally, the scooter is claimed to provide a range of over 70 km on a full charge, while the India-specific model is expected to provide a slightly higher range of up to 104 km in Standard mode, as indicated in an early teaser. The addition of removable batteries is a highly practical feature that allows easy swapping and charging of the power packs. However, there is a trade-off to this convenience: the scooter's storage space will be quite limited due to dual removable batteries.
From the available teaser images, it appears that the underseat storage is reduced to a small cubby area, located behind the batteries. This may limit the amount of personal items you can carry while riding. That said, Honda may mitigate this with additional storage solutions, such as a compartment integrated into the front apron, but we'll have to wait for the official launch to confirm.
In terms of performance, the international version of the Honda electric scooter is listed with a peak power output of 6 kW and a top speed of 80 km/h. While the specifications for the Indian variant may differ slightly. However, it is expected that these numbers will be in a similar range.
