Hyundai Exter Safety Rating has not been officially announced yet but they are confident of getting 4 or 5 stars.
Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) is highly optimistic about the safety credentials of its newly launched Exter micro-SUV. The company believes that the Exter has the potential to achieve a remarkable 4- or 5-star safety rating in voluntary crash testing.
Setting it apart in the entry-SUV segment, the Exter comes equipped with six airbags as standard and offers an Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system, even in the base trim. These features are expected to enable the Exter to excel in the crash tests conducted by the Global New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP).
The Global NCAP crash test protocols, recently updated for its Safer Cars for India program, require ESC to be available as a standalone option. Additionally, the assessment includes side-impact and pedestrian-protection tests for a car to be eligible for a 5-star safety rating. Hyundai has ensured that the Exter meets these criteria, positioning it as a frontrunner in terms of safety in the entry-SUV segment.
Furthermore, Hyundai is considering subjecting the Exter to crash tests under the forthcoming Bharat New Car Assessment Programme. The new crash testing regime is anticipated to be implemented in India from October 1, 2023.

According to the draft protocol issued by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH), ESC, pole side impact, pedestrian protection, and seat-belt reminders are among the qualifying safety requirements for a car to aim for a 5-star rating in the Bharat NCAP tests.
Hyundai India is determined to achieve a "good NCAP rating" for the Exter. Tarun Garg, chief operating officer at HMIL, highlighted the company's focus on safety, stating that the structural enhancements, along with the provision of six airbags as standard and ESC from the base variant, contribute to Exter's anticipated good crash test rating.
Hyundai India has equipped the Exter with an extensive range of safety features to enhance its crashworthiness. The micro-SUV boasts a combination of active and passive safety technologies, including six airbags, seat-belt reminders, and three-point seat belts for all occupants across all five trim levels.
Furthermore, advanced safety features such as ESC, vehicle stability management, hill-assist control, ISOFIX child-seat mounts, and a tyre pressure monitoring system are available as options. The Exter also offers a dual-facing dashboard camera that captures footage from both the cabin and the surroundings.
While Hyundai Motor India is confident in the safety performance of its latest offering, the ultimate judgment will come from the crash test results conducted by either the Global NCAP or the Bharat NCAP. These evaluations will determine whether the carmaker's commitment to safety aligns with the actual crash test performance of the Exter.
