Hyundai unveils Ioniq T10, an electric UTE for Australia, while Kia plans diesel Tasman UTE, transitioning to electric, targeting North America.
Hyundai gears up for a groundbreaking entry into the Australian UTE market with the Ioniq T10, an electric flagship model assured to redefine the landscape. This trademarked vehicle marks Hyundai's strategic move into the dual-cab UTE segment, challenging the dominance of internal combustion engine models. While Hyundai is yet to make an official statement, a trademark registration reveals the name of the upcoming dual-cab electric UTE
Hyundai is positioning itself as a major player in the electric vehicle (EV) market, with an $85 billion investment aimed at expanding its EV portfolio. The company aims to achieve global EV sales of 1.6 million units by 2030. Among the upcoming models, Hyundai is set to introduce the Ioniq T10 dual-cab UTE, which has recently been disclosed through a trademark filing.
According to a recent trademark filing in Australia, the name "Ioniq T10" has been officially registered under Class 12. The status of the trademark is listed as ‘Accepted: Awaiting advertisement,’ indicating that the name is ready for use. While an official announcement from Hyundai is pending, it is anticipated that the Ioniq T10 will be part of the company's expanding electric vehicle lineup.
The tag suggests that the Ioniq T10 will be the flagship model in Hyundai's Ioniq electric vehicle range, with the 'T' likely standing for 'truck.' As the top model, it is expected to be significantly larger than other Ioniq electric cars. However, production is still a couple of years away, and more details about the vehicle are expected to be revealed as it progresses towards production.
In Australia, Hyundai currently offers the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 5 N, and Ioniq 6, but does not have a UTE in its lineup. The Ioniq T10 will mark Hyundai's foray into the dual-cab electric UTE segment, competing with popular internal combustion engine (ICE) models like the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, Isuzu D-Max, and Mazda BT-50.
Notably, Hyundai's sibling company, Kia, is also making strides in the UTE market. Kia has announced the development of a new diesel-powered dual-cab UTE, possibly named Tasman, set to debut around 2025. Unlike Hyundai's electric approach, Kia will initially launch Tasman with a diesel powertrain. However, a fully electric version is planned for the future, aligning with the company's broader electrification strategy.
In North America, Kia is expected to introduce a rebadged version of the Hyundai Ioniq T10 to cater to the diverse preferences of the market. This strategic move will provide consumers with both electric and diesel options under the Kia brand, further expanding the Korean automaker's presence in the competitive UTE market.

As Hyundai and Kia gear up for the launch of their respective UTEs, the electrification wave continues to reshape the automotive landscape, bringing environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional models in Australia and beyond.
