Discover the Jaguar Type 00, a striking concept car that redefines luxury EV design. With its avant-garde aesthetics, cutting-edge technology, and zero-emission vision, this concept marks a dramatic evolution for the iconic brand.
Jaguar has unveiled the Type 00, a striking concept car that signals the brand’s dramatic evolution as it transitions into an all-electric future. Revealed at a private event in the UK, the Type 00 not only showcases Jaguar’s vision for its upcoming production car which is set to debut late next year but also represents the essence of its refreshed identity.
The Type 00 takes its name from its dual symbolism: “0” for zero emissions and “0” for a fresh restart. A sharp departure from the understated elegance Jaguar has been known for, the Type 00 embodies flamboyance and boldness, a shift Jaguar calls “intentional exuberance.” Managing Director Rawdon Glover explained that the design aims to cater to those who favor dramatic and unique aesthetics, while also challenging the uniformity of today’s aerodynamic-focused EV designs.
The Type 00’s design breaks away from traditional EV templates. The upright nose and long bonnet being more evocative of internal combustion engine sports cars are juxtaposed with massive wheels and exaggerated wheel arches. Glover emphasizes this approach as a rejection of “wind-tunnel” conformity, instead prioritizing visual drama over purely functional aerodynamics.
Adding to the boldness are the concept’s pastel pink and blue hues, a deliberate nod to Miami’s Art Deco palette. While the colors sparked some debate, they underline Jaguar’s willingness to embrace controversy in the pursuit of a distinctive identity.
The concept integrates the elements of Jaguar’s recently unveiled brand marks. The Device Mark (Jaguar lettering over a strikethrough) takes the place of a traditional grille. The Makers Mark (a leaping cat over a strikethrough) adorns the fenders, while the Artist Mark (a J and R monogram) is subtly incorporated into the hubcaps.
At the front, slim headlights frame a vast blank vertical section on the bumper, underscoring the car’s clean design. Air intakes and a splitter at the lower edge add subtle aggression, while a strikethrough pattern on the bonnet carries seamlessly into the cabin, creating continuity between exterior and interior design.
The GT proportions are unmistakable in the elongated bonnet, flowing roofline, and large wheelbase. While the concept is a two-door, Jaguar confirms the production model will be a four-door GT with similar proportions. Brass ingots on the fenders featuring the Makers Mark hide rearview cameras, adding a touch of futuristic craftsmanship.
The rear design is equally audacious. Hidden taillights are embedded within the strikethrough pattern that spans the width of the tailgate, delivering a sleek and minimalistic look. Cameras replace a conventional rear windshield, with visuals displayed inside the cabin.
The butterfly doors open to reveal a cabin that redefines minimalism. Divided by a brass central spine, the interior features two separate dashboards with slide-out screens for driver and passenger. Upholstered in stitch-free wool blend fabric, the floating seats are mounted to a travertine stone plinth that also supports the spine.
Storage compartments, lighting elements, and even a soundbar are concealed using the strikethrough design motif, maintaining the cabin’s clean aesthetic. Ambient lighting creates a serene Art Deco vibe, enhanced by light-and-shadow effects from the glass roof’s strikethrough pattern.
The Type 00’s production version will debut Jaguar’s Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA), a bespoke EV platform engineered exclusively in the UK. Promising a range of 770 km (WLTP) and ultra-fast charging capabilities such as 321 km in just 15 minutes. The platform positions Jaguar at the forefront of luxury EV innovation.
Unlike JLR’s Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA), which will underpin Tata Motors’ higher-end Avinya cars, the JEA platform will be reserved for Jaguar’s exclusive UK-made models.
Jaguar’s upcoming four-door GT will launch globally in phases, starting with key markets like the UK and US in late 2025. Indian customers will have to wait until 2026 or 2027. While pricing remains under wraps, the model will occupy the high end of the luxury spectrum, marking Jaguar’s move further away from the “mass premium” segment.
Future Jaguar models, hinted at by Glover, will adopt a top-down strategy, with subsequent vehicles targeting broader audiences and varied roles in the lineup.
The Jaguar Type 00 is more than a concept car; it’s a manifesto for the brand’s future. With its avant-garde design, luxury-oriented technology, and cutting-edge architecture, Jaguar is making a bold bet on reinvention.
As Glover succinctly put it, “The Type 00 is a signal of intent that Jaguar is changing.” Whether the market embraces this new direction will determine the fate of this iconic British brand as it electrifies its legacy.
