Kia India reports a 17.19% YoY sales growth in August 2024, led by the Kia Sonet with a 144.49% increase. Explore detailed figures and upcoming launches.
Kia India experienced a robust increase in sales in August 2024, driven largely by the resounding success of the 2024 Kia Sonet Facelift. The company reported a 17.19% year-on-year (YoY) growth and a 9.83% month-on-month (MoM) growth, with the Sonet emerging as the top-selling model in its portfolio. As Kia prepares for the upcoming launches of the new Carnival and EV9 in October, the brand continues to strengthen its presence in the Indian automotive market.

Kia India recorded total sales of 22,523 units in August 2024, marking a significant increase of 3,304 units compared to the 19,219 units sold in August 2023. The Kia Sonet played a pivotal role in this growth, accounting for 44.72% of the total sales with 10,073 units sold. This represents a remarkable 144.49% YoY increase over the 4,120 units sold in the same month last year, contributing to a volume growth of 5,953 units.
However, the Sonet was the only model in Kia’s lineup to show positive YoY growth. The Kia Seltos saw a decline of 38.90%, with sales dropping to 6,536 units from 10,698 units in August 2023. Similarly, the Carens and EV6 models experienced double-digit YoY declines of 34.92% and 21.43%, respectively, with 5,881 units and 33 units sold.
On a month-on-month basis, Kia India’s sales improved by 9.83% from 20,507 units sold in July 2024. Each model in the lineup showed positive MoM growth. The Sonet once again led the charge with a 6.49% increase over the 9,459 units sold in July 2024. The Seltos experienced a 22.24% MoM growth, with sales rising from 5,347 units in July to 6,536 units in August 2024. Carens also saw a modest 3.56% MoM increase, while the EV6 posted a significant 50% growth, with sales rising from 22 units in July to 33 units in August.
In August 2024, Kia India introduced new subscription plans across its entire lineup and launched the Seltos X Line Black edition. The company also achieved a significant milestone, surpassing 1 million (10 lakh) domestic sales in just 59 months since entering the Indian market in 2019.
Looking ahead, Kia is set to launch the new generation Carnival on October 3, 2024. The Carnival, which has already been spotted during testing, is expected to be priced starting from ₹50 lakh (ex-showroom).
Additionally, the Kia EV6 will soon be joined by the EV9 in the company’s electric vehicle lineup, with its launch also scheduled for October 3, 2024. The EV9, arriving as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), will compete in the electric SUV segment against models such as the BMW iX, Audi Q8 e-tron, and Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV.
Mr. Hardeep Singh Brar, Senior Vice President and National Head of Sales & Marketing at Kia India, expressed his satisfaction with the company’s performance, stating, "Our continuously strong sales performance reflects the trust and confidence our customers place in the Kia brand.
This success is a testament to the company's strategic optimization of the products, making our vehicles most compelling and value-for-money. Kia India is committed to offering vehicles that resonate well with our customers' evolving needs, preferences, and aspirations and to ensure that we are also continuously expanding our footholds in the country."
