Mahindra sees 15% year-on-year growth in passenger vehicle sales for July 2024, driven by the SUV line-up, while the commercial vehicle segment faces challenges in domestic and export markets.
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. has reported a mixed performance in its July 2024 sales figures, with the passenger vehicle (PV) segment showing strong growth while the commercial vehicle (CV) segment faced challenges. Mahindra's domestic PV sales, primarily driven by its SUV line-up, increased by 14.96% year-on-year (YoY) to 41,623 units in July 2024, compared to 36,205 units in July 2023. This growth represents a volume increase of 5,418 units. Notably, all PV sales came from Mahindra’s SUV segment, with zero sales recorded in the car and van categories.

Commercial Vehicle Segment:
Mahindra's SUV line-up, including models such as Scorpio N, XUV700, Bolero, 3-Door Thar, XUV 3XO, and XUV400 EV, has been the primary driver of growth in the PV segment. Mahindra is set to launch the new Thar Roxx 5-door on August 15, 2024, further expanding its SUV portfolio.
In the electric vehicle (EV) space, Mahindra has plans to introduce several new models, including the XUV700 EV, XUV700 Coupe SUV EV, and BE.05. These models have been spotted undergoing testing across various terrains in India.
While the PV segment showed strong performance, the CV segment faced challenges. The LCV 3.5 and MHCV category saw significant growth, with sales increasing by 77% YoY to 3,136 units. However, the 3-wheeler range, including electric models, experienced a 45% YoY decline in sales.
Exports also took a hit, with a 40% YoY decrease to 1,515 units in July 2024. The YTD export figures for the April-July 2024 period showed a 9% decline to 8,640 units compared to the same period last year.
As Mahindra continues to capitalize on the strong demand for its SUV line-up, the company faces the challenge of revitalizing its CV segment and export markets. The upcoming launch of new models and the expansion into the EV space may play crucial roles in shaping the company's future performance across all segments.
