Mahindra is preparing to launch its much awaited Thar 5-door SUV on August 15, 2024. Leaked photos of the Thar Armada have given enthusiasts an early look at the vehicle's exterior and interior. The Thar Armada is set to compete with other 5-door SUVs like the Force Gurkha and Maruti Suzuki Jimny, combining off-road capability with everyday usability.
Design and Aesthetics
The leaked images reveal the Thar 5-door in a vibrant red, showcasing its robust design. It features prominent wheel arches, a redesigned front grille, and circular LED headlamps. The rear includes vertical tail lamps and a tail-mounted spare wheel, maintaining the classic Thar look while adding two extra doors for convenience.
Cabin Comfort and Infotainment
Inside, the Thar 5-door offers a roomy cabin with ample space in the second row. The boot space is flexible, expanding when the rear seats are folded. The interior boasts premium materials, dual-tone upholstery options, dual-zone climate control, rear AC vents, and an electric sunroof. Technology features include a fully digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity.
Safety Features and Handling
Safety features in the Thar 5-door include multiple airbags, a 360-degree camera system, front parking sensors, and four-wheel disc brakes. These advanced safety technologies ensure a secure driving experience on various terrains.
Engine and Performance
The Thar 5-door will come with a 2.0-liter petrol engine delivering 150 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque, and a 2.2-liter diesel engine producing 129 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. It offers a choice of a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission, with both rear-wheel and four-wheel drive configurations available.
Pricing and Market Position
Expected to be priced between Rs 15-20 lakh (ex-showroom), the Mahindra Thar 5-door aims to attract adventure enthusiasts who value capability and style. With its rugged design and advanced features, it is set to make a strong impression in the SUV market.
