Mahindra has been successful with their XUV vehicles. The XUV500 and XUV300 were big successes and helped brands gain fortune in the respective segments. On the contrary, other vehicles including KUV weren’t effective on the sales chart.

Mahindra Registers Multiple Vehicles with XUV prefix

Citing this as a big thing, Mahindra has recently registered multiple vehicles with XUV prefix. These vehicles include XUV100, XUV400, and XUV900. While the XUV500 and XUV300 are already in use, the Mahindra XUV700 will arrive as the successor to the current XUV500. Once launched, the XUV700 will rival the Tata Safari and Hyundai Alcazar.

The XUV500 nameplate will be discontinued till mid 2022 and there will be a XUV700 based 5-seater vehicle carrying this name that will arrive with subtle design changes at the rear. This new SUV will rival Tata Harrier, Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The XUV100 is expected to be the new name for the all new KUV100. It may come as a more robust SUV to rival the upcoming Tata HBX and Citroen CC21. The XUV400 may find a place below the XUV500 and could be based on the new gen XUV300 platform. The Mahindra XUV900 could probably be the replacement SUV for the not so good Mahindra Alturus G4. The Alturus is essentially the rebadged Ssangyong Rexton which rivals the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, VW Tiguan AllSpace, and Jeep H6. We are expecting this new vehicle to be based on a monocoque chassis.

Despite having a lower price, the mammoth size vehicle isn’t selling well. Ssangyong is a South Korean brand which was purchased by Mahindra a few years back. The XUV300 is also based on Ssangyong Tivoli. Mahindra is up for selling off this loss making venture now.
