Get a first look at Mahindra's latest coupe SUV that has been spied on during testing. Speculations are rife about whether it's the upcoming XUV500 or the BE.05 EV.
In anticipation of the new XUV700, Mahindra decided to discontinue the XUV500 SUV. However, they reassured enthusiasts by confirming that the XUV500 nameplate will make a comeback in the form of an all-new mid-size SUV. This upcoming SUV aims to compete with popular models like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and others.
Additionally, Mahindra showcased five exciting new electric SUV concepts last August. These SUVs will be available under the BE and XUV nameplates. One of these concepts, the BE.05, offers a glimpse into the brand's plans for a mid-sized SUV.
The XUV range consists of the XUV.e8 and XUV.e9 models, while the BE range features three models: BE.05, BE.07, and BE.09. These SUVs have been meticulously designed and developed on Mahindra's innovative INGLO platform, which is specifically tailored for electric vehicles.
Recently, a camouflaged test model of a new Mahindra mid-sized SUV was spotted on Indian roads. This sighting suggests that it could be part of Mahindra's exciting new BE range. Although the colourful camouflage wrapping hides many details, it piques curiosity about the forthcoming addition to Mahindra's lineup.
Upon closer inspection, the spotted model of the Mahindra mid-sized SUV reveals a more practical design compared to the concept version. While retaining the overall silhouette and styling of the front fascia, the spotted model features body panels that prioritize practicality. The deep cuts and aggressive curves seen in the concept have been toned down, yet the spotted model still exudes a sporty and unique appeal.
The new Mahindra Coupe SUV showcases several noteworthy exterior elements. It boasts C-shaped LED daytime running lamps, a beautifully sculpted bonnet, squared-shaped wheel arches, and stylish alloy wheels. Unlike the concept, this SUV incorporates conventional outside rear-view mirrors instead of the camera-based rear-view assembly featured in the BE.05 concept.
With a sporty coupe-like roofline, the Mahindra SUV also comes equipped with a factory-fitted sunroof, adding to its allure. The striking tailgate and LED tail lights, arranged in a full-width LED strip, further contribute to the SUV's distinct aesthetic.
The upcoming production version of the BE.05, from Mahindra's Born electric range, is expected to come equipped with some advanced features. These include semi-active suspension, brake-by-wire technology, multiple drive modes, and an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) with L2+ autonomous capability.
In terms of powertrain options, the Born electric range will offer two drive configurations: single-motor and dual-motor. The single-motor setup is projected to deliver an overall power output of 228-282bhp, while the dual-motor configuration is estimated to generate a more robust 335-389bhp.
During the unveiling, Mahindra stated that the SUV would possess impressive acceleration capabilities, with the ability to go from 0 to 100kmph in approximately 5-6 seconds. To support these power demands, the SUVs will come with battery packs ranging from 60 to 80 kWh, ensuring an adequate range for everyday driving needs.
Enthusiasts eagerly anticipating the production version of the BE.05 can expect its introduction around October 2025.
