Indian electric scooter market is expected to play a key role in the growth of global EV market.
The Indian market, the electric scooter segment is one of the fastest growing verticals among the green vehicles. In addition to the wide range of electric vehicle startups, the big giants in two-wheeler industry like Bajaj Auto, TVS and Hero Electric has already entered the space to grab a substantial chunk of the market pie.
As per the industry experts, the global electric two-wheeler market which includes scooters, motorcycles and mopeds is expected to observe a vertical growth of 35.45% in 5 years down the line, and India will play a very important role in making. Also, among the electric two-wheelers, the electric scooters specifically are expected to see a significant growth in the coming years.
Here is a list of top upcoming electric scooters in the Indian market this year.**1. Ola electric scooter **
In May 2020, Ola acquired the Etergo BV, a Dutch e-scooter manufacturer. After which, the company declared that it would enter the EV space with an electric scooter. This will be the Indian version of Etergo AppScooter that has a 1.16 kWh battery pack enabling the EV to run 80 km on a single charge. The electric motor onboard lays out 6 kW power output and 50 Nm of torque. The company claims to be capable of accelerating 0-45 kmph in 3.9 seconds. The Etergo AppScooter receives some of the elements like LED lighting package, 50 liters of storage capacity, Android-based 7-inch full-color instrument cluster with smartphone pairing, OTA updates, and satellite-navigation and many more.
2. Suzuki Burgman Electric
Suzuki Burgman Electric is second in list and will mark the Japanese auto giant’s entry in the e-scooter market in India. This premium electric scooter will lock horn with Ather 450X and Bajaj Chetak. The auto company has initiated road testing of the model in India. As the test mule has been spotted recently, it gets an exclusive white, blue color combination, and dual hydraulic shock absorbers. Also, the full wheel cover and a redesigned reflector strip are also the part of the feature list. The Suzuki Burgman Electric scooter is likely to get strength from 3-4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a 4-6 kW output motor. The powertrain is strong enough which will enable the vehicle to run around 80 km on a single charge. It should get retailed at a starting price of around Rs1.2 lakh.
3. Hero Electric AE-29
Another very interesting electric scooter will come from the Indian automaker Hero. Hero Electric displayed the AE-29 at the Auto Expo 2020. It is a high-speed electric scooter with a 1 kW motor and a 3.5 kWh lithium-ion battery. The scooter is expected to have a maximum speed of 55 kmph. The electric scooter will be housed with features like LED lights, digital instrument cluster, Bluetooth connectivity, walk assist, anti-theft smart lock, reverse facility, mobile charger, and mobile app support.
4. Hero eMaestro
Hero eMaestro is another electric scooter from the biggest two-wheeler manufacturer of the world, Hero MotoCorp. The launch of this e-scooter was confirmed by Pawan Munjal, Chairman, Hero MotoCorp at Hero World 2020. This electric scooter will be an electric variant of the Hero Maestro Edge. Expect it to offer a range of 80 km on a single charge with an attractive and affordable price of Rs. 1.25 lakh.
5. Okinawa Cruiser
Number five in the consideration list is Okinawa displayed the Cruiser maxi-scooter at the Auto Expo 2020. Strengthened by a 4 kWh detachable lithium-ion battery, it is capable of running 120 km on a single charge and the battery can be fully charged in a span of 2-3 hours. The scooter can reach upto a top speed of 100 kmph. It gets standard features like LED headlight and taillight, digital instrument cluster, keyless start, anti-theft alarm, aluminum alloy wheels, USB charging outlet etc.
