Maserati ends the production of Quattroporte and Levante, shifting focus to electric vehicles with new models expected by 2028.

Maserati Ends Production of Quattroporte and Levante: Transition to Electric Vehicles

Maserati has officially ended production of its renowned Quattroporte sedan and Levante SUV, marking a significant shift in the Italian luxury brand's lineup. This move also concludes the era of Maserati's V8 engines, with the smaller Ghibli sedan having ceased production earlier this year. All three models were built on the M156 platform and produced at the Mirafiori factory, which now focuses on the new Maserati GranTurismo.

A New Era Begins

The Quattroporte, Levante, and Ghibli were the last Maserati models to feature the powerful twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter ‘F134’ V8 engine, designed by Ferrari. The engine’s final appearance was in the special Quattroporte Grand Finale, a unique car made for a US-based owner. While these models also offered V6, four-cylinder, and diesel engine options, Maserati's current lineup now includes just three core models: the GranTurismo, Grecale SUV, and MC20 supercar.

Maserati’s Electric Future

Maserati is transitioning towards electrification with its Folgore BEV program. The company has introduced both ICE (internal combustion engine) and BEV (battery electric vehicle) versions of the GranTurismo and GranCabrio, and the Grecale is available in ICE, mild-hybrid, and BEV versions. The company has confirmed that new electric successors to the Quattroporte and Levante are in development.

Looking Ahead

The next-generation Levante is anticipated to be Maserati’s upcoming electric model, with the electric Quattroporte expected to launch in 2028. Davide Danesin, the chief engineer for the Quattroporte and GranTurismo, mentioned that development was about halfway complete before it was delayed. He emphasized the importance of making the new Quattroporte outstanding, especially in terms of EV range, aiming for over 600km between charges.

Despite the challenges, Maserati is committed to an all-electric future by 2028, paving the way for a new chapter in its storied history.
