Maruti and Hyundai are growing month on month and year on year, check what other brands are in the lead.
According to industry estimates, the domestic PV sales volumes during May 2023 marked a YoY growth of 13.5% and stood at 3.35 lakh units, as against 2.95 lakh units in the year-ago period.
Maruti Suzuki witnessed a significant growth of over 15% in its domestic sales for the month. However, the sales of its mini cars, including Alto and S-Presso, experienced a decline of 30% with 12,236 units sold, compared to 17,408 units during the same period last year.
On the other hand, the sales of compact cars, which include models like Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno, and Dzire, saw positive growth of 5% with 71,419 units sold, compared to 67,947 units in May 2022.
In terms of utility vehicles, such as Brezza, Grand Vitara, and Ertiga, Maruti Suzuki witnessed an impressive growth of 65% with 46,243 units sold, compared to 28,051 vehicles in the corresponding month of the previous year.

Hyundai India has disclosed its sales figures for May 2023, revealing a total of 59,601 units sold during the month. This marks a substantial year-on-year growth of more than 16% when compared to the 51,263 vehicles sold in May 2022. Additionally, the company experienced a month-on-month growth of 2.4%, as the number of units sold increased from 58,201 vehicles in April 2023.

In May 2023, Mahindra reported the sale of 32,883 SUVs, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 23%. However, on a month-on-month basis, the company experienced a decline of 5.2% in sales. Comparatively, in May 2022, Mahindra's domestic sales reached 22,632 units, whereas, in April 2023, the company sold 34,694 units.
During the same period, Mahindra exported 2,616 units, including both commercial vehicles (CVs) and passenger vehicles (PVs). This figure represents an increase from the 2,028 units exported in May 2022.
Furthermore, Mahindra & Mahindra announced that its overall auto sales, encompassing both domestic and commercial vehicles, amounted to 61,415 vehicles in May 2023. This demonstrates a growth of 14% compared to May 2022.

Tata Motors, one of India's leading domestic automobile manufacturers, offers a diverse range of vehicles catering to both private and commercial customers. The company has demonstrated commendable growth in the passenger vehicle (PV) segment.
In the previous month, Tata Motors achieved sales of 45,878 units, including electric vehicles (EVs). This represents a noteworthy year-on-year growth of 5.8% when compared to the 43,341 units sold in the corresponding period last year. The volume growth year-on-year amounted to 2,537 units.
However, Tata Motors experienced a decline in sales compared to the previous month. In April 2023, the company sold a total of 47,007 units, resulting in a month-on-month decrease of 2.40%. This translates to a volume loss of 1,129 units.
Despite the slight dip in month-on-month sales, Tata Motors continues to display positive year-on-year growth and maintains its position as one of India's prominent automobile manufacturers.

Kia recorded sales of 18,766 units in May 2023, marking a slight increase of 48 vehicles compared to May 2022, representing a YoY growth rate of 0.26 per cent. In April 2023, there was a significant month-on-month (MOM) decrease of 4,450 units, accounting for a decline of 19.17 per cent. Sales fell from 23,216 units.
Breaking down the sales figures by model, the Sonet emerged as the best-selling Kia car in May 2023, with 8,251 units sold. Up from 7,899 units YOT. This represented an increase of 352 vehicles or 4.46 per cent compared to May 2022.
Sonet tops the list for the fourth consecutive month. Carens, with sales of 6,367 units, showed strong growth of 1,755 units or 38.05 per cent year-on-year. Sales are up from 4,612 units making it one of the top-selling Kia cars in May 2023.

Tata Motors' electric car sales in India have experienced a significant boost, with the Nexon EV, Tiago EV, and Tigor EV playing a crucial role. In May, the country's leading electric car manufacturer sold a total of 5,805 units of these models.
Compared to the same period last year, Tata Motors witnessed an impressive 66% increase in sales, largely attributed to the successful launch of the Tiago EV earlier this year. The popularity of this electric hatchback became evident when it reached the milestone of 10,000 units sold within just four months of its introduction.
Tata Motors has witnessed remarkable growth in its EV sales, surpassing the figure of 3,505 units sold during the same period last year. However, there has been a slight decline in sales compared to the previous month. In April 2023, Tata Motors sold 6,516 electric vehicles. Electric vehicles accounted for approximately 8% of Tata Motors' total sales in May. In the same month, Tata Motors achieved impressive sales of 73,448 units of passenger vehicles.
Tata Motors' electric car lineup in India has been enriched with the introduction of the Tiago EV. Launched in the previous year, the Tiago EV stands out as one of the most competitively priced electric vehicles in the country, starting at Rs. 8.69 lakh (ex-showroom) and going up to Rs. 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
The popularity of the Tiago EV is evident from its remarkable booking numbers, with a staggering 20,000 entries recorded by December last year, making it the fastest in terms of bookings among Tata Motors' electric vehicle offerings.
