Mercedes-Benz has reportedly announced that the EQS 580 4Matic will go on sale on September 30. This new EV will be the first Mercedes-Benz EV to be assembled in India
Mercedes-Benz has reportedly announced that the EQS 580 4Matic will go on sale on September 30. This new EV will be the first Mercedes-Benz EV to be assembled in India.
Mercedes-Benz has announced that the EQS 580 4Matic, the non-AMG version of the EQS, will be on sale on September 30. This follows the recent debut of the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+.
The EQS 580, unlike its AMG counterpart, will be imported into India through the CKD route, making it the automaker's first electric vehicle to be built here. The day of the launch will also mark the start of the local assembly.
The WLTP cycle estimates the EQS 580 4Matic's maximum range to be up to 770km, which is one of its highlights. With that figure, it will easily exceed the current title holder, the BMW i4, which has a WLTP-certified range of up to 590km, and become the EV with the highest range figure in India.
The EQS 580 has a 107.8kWh battery pack and two motors, like like the EQS 53, but its combined power output is lower than the AMG at 523hp and 865Nm.
The Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 has a more aggressive design than the EQS 580 4Matic, which is to be expected. The front blanked-out grille, which used to have horizontal slats like the AMG version, will now have many tiny lighted three-pointed stars instead. The front and rear bumpers will also alter slightly, and the 20-inch alloy wheels on the India-spec EQS 580 4Matic will be different.
The 56-inch "Hyperscreen" is anticipated for the EQS 580's interior, and Mercedes is anticipated to provide a variety of interior colour and trim options for the India-spec variant.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 will likely cost about Rs 50 lakh less than its AMG cousin, which is now the most expensive EV in India with a price tag of Rs 2.45 crore. At launch, the EQS 580 4Matic won't have any direct competitors, but in terms of price, it will compete with the Porsche Taycan and the Audi e-tron GT's entry-level models.
