Mercedes-Benz have launched the all-new MB.OS with some updated features.
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled MB.OS, a brand-new operating system for its next-generation vehicles. The new operating system will power all of the company's future vehicles and promises breakthroughs in entertainment and driving assistance.
Starting in 2025, the new MB.OS software architecture will be utilized in the brand's future battery-electric automobiles that will employ the MMA (Mercedes Modular Architecture).
Mercedes-Benz CEO, Ola Källenius, said MB.OS "will offer an unparalleled customer experience, from driving assistance, navigation and entertainment, all the way to integrated charging. MB.OS will be fully upgradeable and constantly improved."
Furthermore, Mercedes claims that there is a predecessor to the new MB.OS system shown in the inside of the new E-Class (above), which will be available in 2023.
Some of the applications and services that will be available on future Mercedes-Benz vehicles will be available with this vehicle. The new E-Class will come with a Superscreen, which is a smaller version of the brand's Hyperscreen.
To begin, MB.OS will rely largely on Google to construct its own branded navigation system. Mercedes-Benz and Google have established a strategic relationship that would allow the company to build on Google's core software infrastructure.
The new navigation system is believed to employ Google's Cloud AI to build methods for the system to be personalized for each user. The first, mild step will be incorporating 'location information' into MBUX, which will show things like opening times and reviews and will be accessible via a software update today.
When it comes to autonomous driving, MB.OS also provides for additional computational power. To construct completely programmable and updateable autonomous driving systems, the new OS depends on NVIDIA's DRIVE Orin technology as well as LiDAR from Luminar (which also provides Volvo and Polestar for the EX90 and Polestar 3).
Mercedes-Benz isn't embarrassed to admit that there will be some paid features. The new MB.OS system enables some software features to be tacked on independently or even subscribed to while a vehicle is in use. The company has previously stated that it will include numerous infotainment capabilities into an MB. Connect is a pay-for package, whereas MB.Charge gives owners more charging alternatives and reduced charge cost rates.
All of this implies Mercedes-Benz will have a consistent source of additional cash. By providing digital services, the brand has already generated €1 billion in new income by 2022. The brand forecasts that with packages like MB.Connect and MB.Charge, that amount may rise to a 'low-to-mid single-digit billion euro figure by mid-decade.'
