The MG 4 EV has received an outstanding 5-star rating in the last round of Euro NCAP safety tests. This midsized electric hatchback was introduced in July this year and the MG 4 EV will be showcased by MG India at the upcoming Auto Expo 2023.If it gets launched in India, the MG 4 EV hatchback will contend with the customers of the BYD Atto 3 and the upcoming Kona Electric facelift.
MG 4 EV Euro NCAP test results
In adult occupant tests, MG 4 EV scored 83 percent on the score of 31.6 points out of 38. In child occupant tests ,it scored 80 percent, with score of 39.5 out of 49 points. MG’s EV hatchback got 78 percent in safety systems tests by earning 12.6 points out of a total of 16. MG 4 earned was 75 percent in the vulnerable road users tests which was lowest, on the score of 40.6 out of 54 points. Test was for left -hand drive but goes works for right hand as well. In the Euro NCAP safety tests, The BYD Atto 3 also got a five star rating. As compared to the MG 4 EV,BYD got a better score in the child occupants tests and adult occupant with 91 and 89 percent scores, respectively. When it comes to vulnerable road users and safety systems test, The Atto 3 scored little lower than the MG 4 EV, with 69 and 74 percent, respectively.
MG 4 EV: Features
MG 4 EV is a new electric vehicle based on parent company SAIC’s modular scalable platform where the battery pack forms an integral part of the platform structure. The MG 4 is equipped with two battery packs – a 64kWh and a 51kWh. While the former produces 203hp, the latter produces 170 hp. Torque pulled for both is rated at 250Nm and both of them are driven by rear-wheel-drive configuration and with a single-motor. It use a 7kW AC charger, the batteries of the MG 4 EV can be charged up from 10 percent to 100 percent in 7.5 hours and 9 hours for the 51kWh and 64kWh battery packs, respectively. However, via 150kW charger, the batteries can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in 35 minutes and 39 minutes, respectively.
MG 4 EV: India launch details
Mg India 4 EV is assessing the launch in Indian markets. It could come in India as a completely knocked down unit (CKD) or completely built unit (CBU). It is speculated that if it is launched in India, the MG 4 EV could be launched after the Air EV
