Mini Cooper to launch its 2nd gen EV. Click here to read more on the same.

Cooper 2.0 next gen EV | Here's what we know

Mini is gearing up with its new next-gen all-electric-Cooper EV and has disclosed a few details about its powertrain. The redesigned Mini Cooper will lay the foundation for a change in the BMW-owned brand’s wider line-up as it focuses towards complete electrification by the end of the decade.

Mini Cooper EV - The Next-Gen EV

A worldwide debut will be seen by the latest Mini Cooper EV in May 2023 and soon after in July of 2024, a petrol version of the same will be up for sale. For Mini's heartland hatchback, Mini-boss Stefanie Wurst said that the brand has taken it “back to its roots”, with a fresh look and ‘new’ name, and it being officially called the Cooper, instead of the Mini hatchback as before.

While maintaining a 3.8m bumper-to-bumper length, it has a more purposeful stance than the current Mini Hatch thanks to a wider track, shorter front overhang, larger wheels, and longer wheelbase. With the larger Aceman's new disk-shaped daytime running lights around the smaller Mini's bulbous headlights, the smallest Mini now has a new look that is more recognisable as the offspring of BMW's original Mini, which was introduced in 2000.

The Cooper will be offered in both the electric and combustion motor systems. Design-wise there is no difference between the two variants except for the fact there is a lack of an exhaust system in the EV variant (pun intended).

Choice of drop-top is available in the petrol version but it will be sold only with five doors. It's anticipated that a limited-edition convertible version of the current-generation Mini Electric will serve as a preview for a later, series-production successor.

What about the new Mini Cooper production and battery?

The electric version will be available with a pair of competitively sized battery options: either 40kWh in the base-level E or 54kWh in the range-topping SE. The cooper is produced in China and built on the brand-new Spotlight EV platform developed in partnership with Great Wall Motors.

Like with the present model, the range will start at 386 kilometres (up from 241 kilometres). The ordinary electric Cooper will have 181 horsepower, while the warmed-up SE will increase that to 218 horsepower. There will only be two-wheel drive options.

JCE Model in the Development

The JCE model of the car will be up for the public to see in the latter part of 2025, with the same battery module of 54 kW, the expected hp output is over 250. It would be fun to see the powerful JCE variant on the streets.
