MotoGP in India is going to become a reality as the final confirmation has been announced. Fairstreet Sports and MotoGP organizer Dorna Sports have signed an MoU for 7-years to bring the competition here.
The arrival of MotoGP in India has finally received formal confirmation. A seven-year Memorandum of Understanding between Noida-based Fairstreet Sports and MotoGP organizer Dorna Sports was inked in order to bring the competition here.
The Grand Prix of Bharat will be held at the Buddh International Circuit, as previously announced by Autocar India (BIC). Although no formal launch date has been set, organizers want to have a spot on the 2023 calendar.
Given that India is the greatest two-wheeler market in the world, Dorna Sports' Managing Director Carlos Ezpeleta stated it was a "no-brainer" for MotoGP to come to India. He further added, “MotoGP continues to earn new audiences and fans worldwide. This makes it imperative for us to expand its presence to new destinations where fans and riders are growing every year. India is key to our scheme of taking MotoGP to new frontiers."
The Grand Prix of Bharat might appear on the 2023 MotoGP schedule, according to the organisers. To make this possible, they are now in discussions with the Sports Ministry and UP government.
Given that the BIC still has to be homologated by the FIM, 2024 would be a more feasible timetable because this is a pretty tight deadline (Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme). The circuit, which was first constructed for F1, held the Indian GP from 2011 to 2013. To be able to host the top two-wheeler racing in the world, it could need certain adjustments.
The circuit has considered hosting a significant international two-wheeler series before. The circuit was supposed to hold a World Superbike Championship round in the middle of the decade, but that was scrapped following several delays.
The UP government, though, is adamantly committed to making the Indian MotoGP round a success. Up to 50,000 employment might be created by the event, with 5,000 of those positions occurring over the race weekend. Additionally, plans exist to export the MotoE support series to India.
Shri Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh said, "It is a matter of great pride for Uttar Pradesh to host such a globally prestigious mega sport event. Not only will the event boost the hospitality and tourism sectors, but it will also put UP on the global platform. Our government will provide all the necessary support to make this event a huge success."
