Ford has recently revealed the seventh-gen of Ford Mustang at the Detroit Auto Show 2022. The car will be launched soon in the North American markets whereas there are no confirmations as to when it will come to India.
The beloved Mustang's seventh generation has finally been unveiled by Ford. The new Mustang has updated aesthetics from top to bottom but still retains recognizable Mustang design characteristics when it is unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in 2022, which has returned after a brief hiatus.
One of the few vehicles that have continued to be sold since its debut in 1964 is the Ford Mustang. The sports vehicle has sold over 10 million units and has surpassed its primary competition, the Chevrolet Camaro, to remain the world's best-selling sports coupe for the past seven years.
Both the 5.0-liter "Coyote" V8 and the 2.3-liter twin-scroll turbocharged Ecoboost four-cylinder remain under the hood. And the former is believed to have undergone a thorough overhaul, including a new turbo, bore, and stroke. While the naturally aspirated V8 receives less significant upgrades, it does have a new twin cold-air intake.
Both engines are said to be more effective and provide more power and torque. Similar to before, a six-speed manual will be available, but only on the 5.0-liter V8-powered Mustang GT, which is the most potent model. For the 2.3-liter Ecoboost, an upgraded version of the 10-speed torque-converter automatic is standard; it is an option for the V8. Although performance numbers have not yet been disclosed, the fastest V8 variant is predicted to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about 4.0 seconds and reach a top speed of over 273 km/h.
Under the hood, the new Mustang retains the sixth-generation coupe's independent rear suspension and MacPherson-style strut front suspension. New springs and dampers have been fitted, and the mounting points and connections have both been strengthened. Additional options include a performance pack that has grippier tyres, 20mm wider 275-section rear tyres, MagneRide adjustable dampers, larger 19-inch wheels (standard are 18s), and larger Brembo six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers.
For the first time, the Mustang receives a "drift brake" that uses an electric handbrake to help induce the rear axle into enormous slides, though only in Track mode. All versions receive a Torsen-style limited-slip differential. There is also a line-locking burnout mode.
The 2023 Mustang maintains the S550 platform from the previous generation rather than being built on Ford's most recent CD6 architecture, which is the foundation of the current Ford Explorer SUV offered in other countries. This gives the car a bolder, more edgy look than the iconic Ford icon. As a result, the long-rumored electric powertrains and the company's newest generation of autonomous driving aids will not be included in the new Ford Mustang (codenamed S650), which will instead be a full makeover of the present model.
This is the first time Ford's designers have used strong visual signals to distinguish between the V8 and EcoBoost models in terms of style. A new grille, modeled after the original 1964 Mustang, is added to the four-cylinder turbo, and it is flanked by two smaller headlamps that include tri-bar LED daylight running lamps.
In contrast, the 2018 Mustang GT features more aggressive aesthetic cues such as a gloss black grille surround and two nostrils that direct air to the new intakes. Other modifications include a new, lower front bumper and a sizable bonnet extractor that funnels high-pressure air from the front air intakes to lessen lift over the front axle in addition to venting hot air. The Mustang V8 replaces the turbo four's dual exhaust pipes with a bigger diffuser and four tailpipes at the rear.
The mid-level and top-spec trims feature a new "continuous" screen that combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a bigger 13.2-inch touchscreen running Ford's newest Sync 4 software, while the base versions have twin screens inside the cabin.
This newest technology, which can be updated over the air, allows for a high degree of customization that Ford believes will appeal to younger buyers combined with the car's appearance. One fun feature is the option to replace the contemporary gauge visuals with a digital replica of the clocks used on Mustangs with the "Fox body" (1979–1993).
While markets for right-hand drive manufacture, such as Japan and Australia, have been confirmed, the Mustang will initially go on sale in the North American market before moving on to other left-hand drive nations. There is no confirmation as to when the new Ford Mustang will be available, but deliveries will start before the end of 2023.
Ford released the Mustang in India during a few model years from its previous generation, and it was an immediate success—Ford was able to sell every unit allotted within a short period of time. It is unknown if the Mustang will return to India, even as a totally imported model, as Ford has stopped producing vehicles there. However, Ford had previously stated that it will keep selling cars in India using entirely imported models like the Mustang Mach E electric crossover. Since then, there hasn't been any update on this, though.
