After the implementation of Phase II of the BS6 emission rules in April 2023, Honda will only be a sedan-focused brand.
The Honda Amaze is the first of the two Japanese brand survivors to meet the new, more stringent RDE standards.
After the implementation of Phase II of the BS6 emission rules in April 2023, Honda will only be a sedan-focused brand until Honda introduces its rivalling compact SUV to the Creta in India. After April 2022, Honda will exclusively sell gasoline-powered vehicles; the diesel engines currently supplied with the WR-V, City, and Amaze will soon be discontinued.
WR-V, City 4th Gen, Amaze, and City 5th Gen are the available models at the moment. After April 2023, we will only be able to purchase the fifth-generation City and Amaze with gasoline engines. Honda appears to be leading the pack of automakers in terms of bringing their (non-compliant) powertrains up to BS6 Phase II compliance. The new 2023 Honda Amaze tiny sedan with a 1.2L gasoline engine that complies with RDE (Real Driving Emissions) is available for purchase. Purchasing the cleanst form of Amaze comes with a cost. It has increased by about Rs 30K from before. Prices for the entry-level E model currently start at Rs. 6.93 lakh (ex-sh).
Other from a cleaner RDE-compliant engine, additions to justify the Rs. 30K include chrome utilisation. Additionally, the housing for the fog lamp now has a chrome surround. Also available as standard is a chrome grille.
The lower bumper of the rear has a new chrome strip going across it. Honda provides IRVMs that may be manually dimmed, all-power windows, an auto-down feature for the driver's window, air conditioning, and more, even with the cheapest E trim. For about Rs. 9K, wireless charging is now available as an accessory. Boot has a bulb and can be opened from the inside.
Parking sensors, EBD, ABS, dual airbags, and a lot more are included. However, neither the ORVMs nor the door handles are body coloured, and there are no adjustable headrests anywhere. Additionally, the steering wheel is not adjustable, which is a major letdown for Rs. 6.93 lakh (ex-sh). New Engine Compliant with RDE Phase II of the BS6 norms emphasises conformity in actual driving situations, as opposed to Phase I's emphasis on compliance in a lab or test setting.
A car will experience a variety of driving situations, and it is challenging to achieve emission regulations.Vehicles will be made compliant, if economies of scale allow, or they will be terminated. Honda is keeping its popular 5th Generation City and Amaze models while discontinuing the Jazz, WR-V, and 4th Generation City. The Amaze's 1.2L 4-cylinder petrol engine continues to produce 110 Nm of torque and about 90 horsepower of power. It is connected to either a CVT or a 5-speed MT.
