Volkswagen Tiguan was introduced with updated features and a powertrain for a hike of Rs 49,000. Now, the base variant of Tiguan is available from Rs 34.69 lakh (ex-showroom price).
Volkswagen has unveiled updated variants of its flagship offering, the Tiguan SUV. The updated Tiguan is available in single fully-loaded elegance trim, an updated powertrain, and an improved interior. This Volkswagen car is now available with a BS6 phase 2 compliant engine, priced at Rs 34.69 lakh, Rs 50,000 higher than previous models.
While there are no major updates on the exterior, Volkswagen has offered dual tone (grey and white) interior to replace the all-black cabin. Additionally, the new variant of Tiguan is available with a wireless smartphone charger and seatbelt reminder. The SUV also gets six airbags, hill-descent control, hill-start assist, ABS, TPMS, ESC, EDL, and adjustable head restraints.
New Tiguan features Volkswagen's park assist function to park in narrowed parking areas easily. The SUV now comes in five color options: Deep Black, Reflex Silver, Nightshade Blue, Dolphin Grey, and Oryx White with Pearl effect.
There is the same 2.0-liter TSI engine, but the carmaker has updated it to comply with BS6 phase-2 standards. This updated powertrain can produce 190 hp of power and 320 Nm of torque. Additionally, the carmaker has offered a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The updated engine is more fuel efficient and packs an ARAI-certified mileage of 13.54 kmpl, which was 12.65 kmpl in previous models.
Volkswagen Tiguan will continue to compete with Hyundai Tucson, Citroen C5 Aircross, and Jeep Compass. Hyundai Tucson is being sold with an ex-showroom price of Rs 28.63 lakh to Rs 35.46 lakh. In comparison, Citroen C5 Aircross and Jeep Compass are available at Rs 37.17 lakh and Rs 21.44 lakh, respectively.
It's rumored that this leading carmaker is currently working on an all-electric SUV that can be an electric version of the Volkswagen Tiguan and register its debut in 2025. The electric Tiguan may be launched with RWD and 4WD variants with five and seven seating options. Customers can expect to have a new MEB+ platform in this upcoming EV from Volkswagen.
