NHAI Grants Additional Month for FASTag KYC Compliance

Key Highlights

  • NHAI extends FASTag KYC deadline to February 29.
  • 'One Vehicle, One FASTag' initiative emphasized.
  • Only 7 lakh out of 1.27 crore multiple FASTags closed by January 31.
  • Update KYC promptly to avoid FASTag invalidation.
  • Check and update through the dedicated customer web portal.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has extended the deadline for updating Know Your Customer (KYC) details on FASTags by an additional month. The agency had initially set January 31 as the deadline, warning that FASTags not updated by this date would be declared invalid.

New Deadline: February 29

NHAI officially announced the extension on Wednesday, moving the deadline to February 29. This decision comes in line with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) rules and is aimed at ensuring that FASTag users comply with the KYC norms for continued access to the digital toll collection system.

FASTags, introduced on February 15, 2021, have become a crucial component of automatic toll collection, reducing queues at toll plazas and enhancing overall efficiency.

'One Vehicle, One FASTag' Initiative

NHAI Extends FASTag KYC Deadline to February 29: What You Need to Know

To further streamline the toll collection process, NHAI initiated the 'One Vehicle, One FASTag' campaign. This campaign discourages the use of a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or the coupling of multiple FASTags to a single vehicle, which is a violation of RBI guidelines.

In its recent announcement, NHAI stated, “Attention FASTag users. The deadline for the 'One Vehicle, One FASTag' initiative and completing KYC updation for your latest FASTag has been extended till 29th February 2024."

Current Status and Expectations

As of the January 31 deadline, NHAI reported that only seven lakh multiple FASTags out of the 1.27 crore issued across India had been closed. NHAI anticipates that the remaining FASTag accounts will be updated before the extended deadline.

How to Check and Update FASTag KYC

Check FASTag KYC Status

1. Visit the dedicated customer web portal at [https://fastag.ihmcl.com](https://fastag.ihmcl.com).

2. Log in using your registered mobile number and password or OTP.

3. Navigate to the dashboard and select the 'My Profile' option to view submitted details.

Update KYC if not Done

1. In the ‘My Profile’ section, locate the KYC sub-section.

2. Select the customer type and fill in mandatory fields with the required ID proof and address proof documents.

3. Upload a passport-size photograph and address details.

4. Tick the self-declaration box before submitting the KYC details.

Keep These Documents in Hand While Updating KYC

Ensure you have:

  • Vehicle registration certificate (RC)
  • Passport-size photograph
  • Driving licence, PAN card, Aadhar card, passport, or voter identity card of the vehicle owner.

NHAI encourages FASTag users to comply with the updated KYC norms before the new deadline to avoid any inconvenience in accessing toll facilities.

Verdict

NHAI's extension of the FASTag KYC deadline to February 29 provides users with an additional month to update their details. To avoid invalidation and ensure continued access to the digital toll collection system, FASTag users are urged to promptly check and update their KYC information through the dedicated customer web portal.
